Hehe, the last game something really amazing happened. It was a 1000pts battle Tyranids (me) against Tau (my buddy).
At one flank I had two unites of Hormagaunts, he had his 3 Krisis suites in cover and about 12 Firewarriors in the open.
Ok, my gaunts moved towards him, he fired, reduced the one unit to 1 the other to 2 gaunts.
The lone gaunt fleed back into the secure reach of the Hive Mind, but the two gaunts made there moral test and passed there instinktiv behavior test (hive nodes) and came into assault range of the suites.
In the resulting CC the didn´t wound the big Taus, but tje Tau just smashed one gaunt with ther how-knows-how-much S5 attacks *ggg*
The lone gaunt passed its moral test and so baught my swarm enough time to get into position to totaly cream the Tau.
Maybe I make a battle report out of this ^^ This shows again that the true power of the swarm lies in its small masses
Hell yeah, If only more people listened to our idea. I've killed 5 terminators with eight 5-point spinefistgaunts. In combat. When they charged. I whoop all of the nid players I know because they try to fit in as many monstrous creatures as possible. It's not right. Spread the word, nids should come in droves!!!
My favourite nid is the hormagaunt, just masses of them.... they smash up most people in cc or can hold out for long enough time so my slower creatures can catch up. And on total numbers you've got to likle the spine gaunts, 5 points each you can field millions of the little creatures and totally swamp your opponent in cc or hundreds of spine shots. Gotta love the gaunts!

Yeah, I really love my hormagaunts, too. Its really anoying that you can´t buy them seperately, but I think this has been pointed out enough. My swarms of hormagaunts have ripped apart nearly everything so far, be it Marine, IG, Tau or Necron, their ability combination is just deadly.
Does everyone have any experience with mutated gaunts besides Spinegaunts and Hivenodes? I somewhat like the idea of Hormagaunts with bioplasma, but that would be too expensive, I think. On the other hand, no one will expect this, so you could maybe hide o unit or two of these in your teaming masses Or in a seedling swarm army they could come in handy, landing right in the mid of the enemy.
is the SpineFsts. worth it over scythes?
Some people like Scythegaunts, I personally prefer using the ScyTals on either Leaping Gaunts or converting Garg Wings.Originally posted by The_Crested_Ones@Mar 19 2004, 12:41

Spinegaunts are always worth it, at 5pts a pop it's better than a Guardsman! The point isn't whether it's that effective, just that it's cheap and You can field lots of them!
"The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all biomatter consumed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be devoured."
so going Scythe-frenzy over Spiney isnt a mile of difference , hope not! Guess having a squad of both would do the trick (i like the look of scythes a lot better as you can guess)
course, I'm only speaking for my Hormagauntys. mighty useful critters eh?
Might I ask you to explain wich mutations a Spinegaunt and a Scytheguant have?
"I keep the bible in a pool of blood,
so that none of it`s lies can affect me."
Spinegaunt: Spinefists, Leaping, AdnGld. I or WSMight I ask you to explain wich mutations a Spinegaunt and a Scytheguant have?
Scythegaunt (basically a Hormogaunt): Scything Talons, Leaping (some people add extra mutatins like Tox.Scs., or Ext.Crps. making them Scythegaunts as they have extra mutations over the basic Hormy. still I would suggest just getting basic hormys, then adding mutations you think you need after playing them a number of times)
Unfortunately your description of the spinegaunt are not quite right. They cost 5 points, and have no upgrades except for spinefists. Living shield for your genestealers!
