I know Aun'Shi can take a firewarrior squad as his retinue, but what if he had specially trained Ethereal's as his retinue. That way you could have a small squad (5-6 models) of close combat Tau that would fit in with the Fluff. Think about it, If Aun is so vaulable to them, why would they let him run around without proper support.
Anyway, here are my stats for the idea:
Ethereal Elite Guard:
Points: 40 per model
WS BS S T W A I Ld Sv
4 3 3 3 2 2 4 8 4+
Honour Blade, EMP grenades, Photon grenades.
Each Elite Guard may be given a Pulse Carbine at +10pts per model. Each may also recieve a Sheild generator at +15 per model.
For the Greater Good: The Elite guard are so deticated to preserving the life of Aun'Shi, they will always seek to place themselves in the way of danger. Their training as allowed them to know when harm is about to come of Aun'Shi before any would be assaisns pull the trigger. If the Aun'Shi and his retinue are attacked by either enemy fire, or in close combat, any wounds recived will be allocated to any elite gurad models first. Even wounds inflicted by assaisns allowed to target indivdual models are divirted in this way.
Tell me what you think.
Very good, balanced, fluffy rules!!
I LIKE IT, I LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3;
Have you play tested it yet??
nice, i had the same sort of idea about a special assault retinue for Aun'Shi once but it kinda got forgotten. It's about time someone thought up a nice tau assault retinue to help us against eldar etc. Please report back when it's been play tested !! i really want to see what it performed like.
Yay! I did good.
I'll post back once I get a chance to play test. Need to get the time to play first. Also have to find someone at my local shop willing to play with my own units, maybe ill tell him they are from GW
Anyone else want to play test them yourselves has my full permission, just report back here what you find.
Again someone invents Tau with a WS of 4 designed for close combat .
Altough maybe very fluffy, balanced etc etc etc. the Tau are not a close combat army, it's a shooty army .
Every couple of topics is about a new one about a Tau close combat unit, if you want close combat why did you ever start a Tau army?
Their Etherials dude. They have weapon skill of 4
People just don't like the way how a guy with a weapon skill of 5 and awesome close combat abilities be accompanied by guys with ws 2 and initiative 2
If they are ethereals, there ought to be either a mild punishment to the entire army as each guard dies off, or one enourmous one if the whole squad is wiped out. The fire warrior caste members won't just think "Oh fiddlesticks" if they see 5 ethereals lose their lives.
Jozef : I know the Tau are not a cc army, thats why I got them, that and they are a very challanging army. There are already a handful of Tau CC units, I don't use any of them. But, for some people who dont like playing a strictly Ranged Tau force, this would give them atleast something to counter a squad of CC enemy that gets into assault range(thats are not kroot, i really dont like kroot, even though I have a squad, 6 hounds and a krootox, never used, just painted). I was thinking they would be just modified Ethereal caste members, which are already CC oriented, not firewarriors with laser swords and power fist. Im a firm beleiver in Long Ranged combat, but some people might want to try some CC without spending another 250$ + on a new army. Plus its not like this is gonna be approved by GW or anything, just my wheels turning.
Durandal: If one of the guards dies, Aun'Shi is still their to make the table able to reroll any morale test. Plus the Guards aren't really political figures like the other ethreal. The other caste might not even know what caste the guards are from, I'm assuming they would be wearing some sort of mask. But I was thinking that if Aun'Shi died because of a failed save, and the guards still remained, then they could either 1) Go into a rage of some sort, making them charge at the nearest enemy for the rest of the game. or 2) Pick up the body of Aun'Shi and leave the board, like a broken unit. Maybe a dice roll could determine the results if Aun'Shi died while the retiune remained.
sweet idea! and when u gave us permission to play-test it, i jumped.
my friends arent that strict so they let me use them straight away.
performed quite well, chaos raptors assaulting my shas'el were wiped out cos they got counter-charged
when aun'shi dies i used:
1-2 = unit picks up aun'shi's body and moves towards the nearest table edge every turn until they have left.
3-4 = elite guards go into a frenzy and charge towards the nearest enemy unit, no shooting allowed.
5-6 = if they have weapons, the guard stop and shoot for a turn, then go into a frenzy jsut as a dice roll of 3-4 would give.
wondering weather people thought this would be fair or not.
Glad to see they worked out for you. Did your friends think they were too powerful? I was worried they might not be quite balanced enough.
Were they suprised to see a Tau unit holding its own in CC?
The Roll stats seemed good, maybe if they roll a 6, they continue as normal.
Thanks for playtesting, soon as I get the time ill try them out myself.
