Ok just a quick one today.
I was looking around the army list section and noticed someone mentioned that you cannot use the AFP on a shas'vre crisis suit. so does anyone else agree with this?
Also bit of a newbie question really but i've never heard of the 'burning eye' xv8 config, can anyone enlighten me please?
Yes you can get a AFP on a Shas'vre, I don't know where you heard this from.
The Burning Eye is a cisis suit with a twin-linked plasma rifle and a targeting array. It is best used for anti MEQ/TEQ to take advantage of it's high hit rate and low AP. Burning Eyes (or BEs) is critized as too inflexable and inferior to the Fireknife (I disagree with this quite strongly but I thought I would give you the popular belief rather then my own).
if you look closely in the codex, the Shas'ui/Shas'vre battlesuits in the Elites section of the book are only limited to select Special Issue Wargear. not the weapons or systems.
the Commander does have access to all Battlesuit equipment as normal, as a bonus, his Bodyguard has access to them as well. bummer really...
so, the answer to this question is, yes to the Commander and Bodyguard. no to the normal crisis
hope that sorted it out for you
Oh dear, Kai-Itza is right. A Shas'vre in the Elites section of the book can choose special issue wargear (like Iridium armour and stim injectors) but not special issue weapons systems (AFP and CI or special issue Support Systems (Positional relay, Command and control node and Vector retro-thrusters). I wonder if this is intensional or just an error?
it's definitely intentional mate, GW's done that to promote increased usage in Bodyguards accompanying their Commander. plus it is terribly unfluffy for the Earth Caste to give Special Issue Systems and Support Systems to any Tom, Dick and Harry! otherwise they won't be Special Issue...
nice try though 8Y
The entry for Shas'Vre says he gets access to 'Special Issue wargear'. This is basically variation of what the entry for the BG and HQ is saying (they can take wargear including 'Special issue Systems' of Wargear).
So if you actually read the entry for the BG and HQ you can argue it says that they are restricted to wargear, which includes 'Special Issue wargear systems'.
Also the armoury entry states that Special issue items are limited to those whose codex entry states they may take 'Special issue systems'. If we take this exactly as it is written then it contradicts the codex entry for Shas'Vre's. Basically it is saying that unless you have 'Special Issue systems' in your profile, you cannot take any Special issue item.
If we go by whats written no elite Shas'Vre XV8 suit can take any Special Issue items (be it wargear or weaponry).
I believe that if a Shas'Vre Bodyguard can take weapons, then so can a standard Shas'Vre.
Either this applies or basically we have to take it exactly as read then no Elite XV8 Shas'Vre can take any Special issue item (of any kind).
ok so i can use a shas'vre monat with AFP and T.L. Burst cannons and HW M.T.
thanks for the help. (Unless anyone else disagrees)
Chances are your not going to kill more than 3 or 4 a turn with it at best and this leads to the next point. On top of the poor shot efficiency you have a whopping 18" range, which means you will more than likely die badly.
The only decent use I have seen for the AFP is Israfels idea for a Shas'El with MP and AFP with HW multi, the independent character status helps the Shas'El to survive.I would not give a normal Shas'Vre a Cat in hells chance of surviving.
Oh and the Shas'El only costs 93pts, thats only 21pts more but it gets a Missile pod (twin linked). I know which I would be taking the AFP on.
