Hi, so I suggest posting your armylist here, or in the armylist section and link to it from here so we can see what you are playing with and we can maybe give you suggestions on army construction.

Hey there, so what does your brother play?

and how many points do you play at?
It looks like you play somewhere around 1000 pts.

Rangers and dire avengers are ok. I would probably stick with two squads of dire avengers over the rangers. and put them in wave serpents with bladestorm.
Reapers are ok, they just tend to get shot up and die when I play them or play against them.
The falcon is too many points at this level to be worth it. I would stick with wave serpents.

Striking scorptions or banshees in a wave serpent can be very useful against marines.
Banshees for counter charging when your DA's get attacked, or scorpions for all around grinder unit.

the farseer has a tendency to get blunted when faced with a librarian(stupid psychic hood).
In this case an autarch or avatar might be a better choice.
    Hope this helps.

Heh, whirlwind..... probably one of the best "buys" at low points.

With what you have, the falcon is probably your only option.
Arm it with shuriken cannons and double move it the first turn behind some terrain, and then the
second turn zip out and shoot.

If he has it "behind" cover then just fly on and over the terrain its behind and shoot at it from there.
The falcon comes with good weapons and it should be able to blow it up.

at 600 points, he reallly shouldn't be having many or any termies.

Firedragons all the way for me.
I usually load 6 firedragons in a falcon. (remember the pulse laser has the AP to kill termies too, a lot of people like to put starcannon/pulse lasers on the falcon to hunt 2+ save stuff)
and unload them near the termies and rain melta doom on their heads. THEN I assault with banshees to mop up the rest.

your next purchase needs to be a CC unit

Get a unit of banshees or scorpions, both are helpful against CC marines.

Also, think about buying a small (3) unit of jetbikes; one with a cannon. You can race them to pop rear armor of the Whirlwind and then use them to make him chase them around (unless he has a chaplain).

    Good luck!
    Have fun,

    Frank
