so im thinking of starting a tau army and i thought it might be cool to theme them along the lines of an experimental weapons trial cadre. They would be the first to field test weapons from the earth caste. Thing is, i dont want to use any new house rules, so i want to get this theme across with army selection and lots of counts-as conversions. Right now i've got some ideas such as modelling some firewarriors with cameras to record the weapons effects. Can anyone else help me out with some other cool experimental coversion ideas? Also in your opinions what units would this type of army have?
Thanks for your help,

Tau Heavy Weapons Team.
Of course, theirs lots of need ideas you could just stick onto a Crisis.
I'll post a few more when I think of them.
PS: Better Vespids (in any way, shape, or form).

Perhaps you could go as far as having earth cast holding the cameras, or just as many real armies have an engineer attached to a normal squad of firewarriors.
It wouldn't be impossible to have earth cast members on the ground, at the time of the fighting, like air caste members are flying in the firewarriors. In that way the cast system isn't as narrow that other casts can't see combat.

Why risk a life unecessarily, but instead have drones record, while the Earth Caste controls them a safe distance away?
You could use the XV-15 jetpacks, put them onto a Fire Warrior and use that to replace the Vespid.
As for the actual army composition, you'd want as many of the higher ranks as you could get. Namely Shas'Vre, 'El and 'Os.
The OP said he wanted counts-as models, and not new house rules.
