I've jumped right into 40k by buying the tyranid codex and battleforce. However, my battleforce didn't come with bases for the warriors or the carnifex. And after reading up on tyranid sets, it seems like a lot of upgrades are missing (wings anyone?) for units; gaunts only come with enough bits to assemble half of them with a particular upgrade (source: one of the many threads on this site, I'll double check). Is this a tyranid problem or 40k in general? Also, the vast array of weapon options seems overwhelming.
(If I've misconstrued anything, please speak up. Browsing through 18 pages of 'nid information can scramble the brain!)
Anyways, I'd like to compile solutions to this problem of physically assembling models in one area. For example, bits can be found here. Another common option is to use magnets for the larger models (linky to some good suggestions (Magnets)).
Does anybody have information such as what biomorphs a box comes with? What does a carnifex come with, what needs to be ordered, and what must be subbed from another model or puttied? Maybe an eventual compilation of either wing threads or wing building advice (there are a LOT).
P.S. How should I go about getting bases for my warriors and carnifex? Should I order them, or does a Carnifex/warrior box come with multiple bases?
for your missing bases, you should go back to your shop, and ask why they are missing. Probably, you have a somewhat bad batch, and you'll probably get them from the GW staff. This stuff sometimes happens (it happend to a friend of mine, who didn't get flying bases for his Tau Gun Drones. He went back, and got them.)
as for the lack of certain biomorphs, this is true. Quite a few have to be made yourself (like enhanced sences for the warriors) or need to be converted from other pieces (like the wings for your HT of warrios) and mostly, you'll always be short on Rending claws
The missing weapon options is mostly Games Workshop, because the can't put all the possible weaponry on a sprue, and still put it in a small box. This isn't only the problem for Tnids, other armies have those too.
can't tell precisely with what weapons each box comes with, because of my laziness, and moreover, lack of time

Sometimes you can go on GW-Online and look at the actual sprues that come inside a box (click on the little wrenchy-icon), although they won't say how many of each are included in a box.
For Warrior Wings, you can (a) buy gargoyles and use their wings (heavy, but they also give you a nice stand to put them up in the air) (b) buy warrior wings from Forgeworld (lighter than gargoyle wings, but pricey and no stands) (c) model your own (there are some really cool customizations in the modelling/conversion section).
You only get one pair each of rending claws and extended carapace (mismatched) in the warriors box; you can take the RC from the 'stealers box and use EC from Gaunts or 'stealers on warriors. EC is often wasted on Gaunts.
