How do you guys deal with tau shield drones, especially on broadsides???
I thought pathfinders would be the way to go,but you still have to beat the +2 save.
Broadside with 2 shields = 100 points
Team of 5 pathfinders = 120 points
5 Pathfinders shoot, 4.15 shots hit.
4.15 shots attempt to wound,
1.4 AP 1 hit hits.
.66 regular hit.
.66 with a +2 save roll = .1 kill
1.5 kill rate approx.
In two turns, they should be dead.
Pathfinders can infiltrate, so you can get your shots from turn 1.
If we take a naked broadside with simply 2 shield drones (this is if they don't take anything else like targetting array or the slow and purposeful upgrade), your snipers have almost made their points back by turn 2 and have eliminated a great source of anti-armor.
This is also without counting the fact that they'd need to do a leadership test on turn 1 as they lost more then 25% of their unit.
I'd have to say in practical use, my pathfinders makes a Tau team quiver in fear because it restricts crisis suit movement and makes easy work of Broadsides. Also, 2+ invul save roll is fricken amazing.
Just watch out for stealth troops though, they can be nasty.
I don't know what kind of army you're playing, but I've found pretty much anything fast works well against broadsides, especially a Warp Spider squad. Their shooting forces a LOT of saves, and if your exarch's got a spinaret, he's obviously pretty good at taking them out. Then you can hop in close combat for a while, hop back out and repeat. This assumes, of course, that you can get close enough to engage them.
I'm not a fan of the pathfinders tactic specifically because of the slow and purposeful upgrade. Any reasonably skilled player can avoid your pathfinders pretty easily using this upgrade. If your opponent doesn't use it, though, I'd say pathfinders are the best option.
Actually Warp spiders would be sick, I didn't realize they had Hit-and-run (they changed the exarch skill to retreat or something). Definetely going to check out.
It is true that slow and purposeful will move them out of the hit of my pathfinders and this is quite the problem. Recently, I've been thinking about putting snipers on each of the sides to create a sort of "X" view. with my tanks pretty much marching down the middle with guide.
This is against Tau keep in mind as that is 90% of what the players use in my hobby store.
A Farseer with Mindwar can work pretty nicely, and have another unit mop-up.
Aside that, and what's been mentioned, I like Shining Spears and/or Harlies. Or even Scorpions should work. You don't necessarilly need to win combat immediately, just keep them from firing.

How would mind war help?
Mind war allows you to pick the model so you would pick the broadside and no the shield.
The broadside has a weaksauce 8 leadership while the farseer is chilling at 10.
Which means if you both roll a the same number, the broadside is slain instantly and the shields dissapear as the broadside died.
