I'm looking to start an Eldar army from scratch. Since I'm not very familiar with them at this point I wanted to ask you guys if you think this set would be a good buy, or if I'd be better off making individual purchases to have more control over the makings of my new army.
As has been said if you plan on using all or most of the units then you will save money, I bought the Wild Rider host box set 9 bikes, 2 vypers and the new autarch for £75, seperately they would be about £96, assuming the autarch will be about £12 when he goes on sale in December.
I probably wouldn't buy an Eldar army set, to specialised, something like IG, Tyranids or Orks then probably.
I like everything in the box except the guardians, and as something of a modelling nutter, i saygo for, you never know when those extra guardian bits will come in handy.
for example i have a custom warpspyder exarch i made by combining guardian bits with DE warrior bitz, a couple necron bits, the barrels of two extra warp spyders i had, and a warp pack i scavenged by litterally cutting it off of an old warpspyder model with my dremel tool. He looks sweet by the way.
i would buy it anyday, but the things that are in the box are for different sort of lists, wraithlord and guardians are for footsloggers so they dont fit into every list that's what i dont like about it. but otherwise a nice deal.

Eldar are great as you find a use for everything so something like this that covers many units is great. You will end up using it all maybe not every game but you will definitely use all the mini's in the box eventually.
as others have stated, if you going to use all the models in your list then it is a great deal, if your not going to use even one squad, its would save money not too. Personally, guardians dont have much of a place in the new lists, so that almost makes it absolete. that being said, i dont know how many lists cannot include a WL, FD, or Banshees, they are all really good units and are uses quite a bit. The banshees not so much, but the WL is the best Heavy platform we have and the FD are all around good units to stick in a falcon and transport. vypers are give and take, some use em some dont, the autarch is about the same, most will either mount him or take a farseer.
all in all its a good start as long as you build your lists around those units, which pretty much restricts the rest of your list drasticly. Personal i dont think it would be worth it for me as i would only use the aurtarch, vyper, da and tanks, which i am sure is less then what the box costs.
evaulate your list and see if it saves you money. there really isnt a 'standard start' to eldar as the lists vary dramticly.
The problem is that I don't have the codex yet. It would come with this set. So I don't know what kind of list I would want, and I don't know what units I should buy.
Maybe it would be better to get the codex alone and make a list before I buy anything.
At the same time I have some money to spend and I like the idea of getting most everything I'll need to get started in one box.
