Hi, can anyone tell that if i put a biting blade on my exarch, will he not be able to shoot at all?
And do you think the biting blade is worth it over the scorp claw?
I'm for the claw all the way. You don't lose an attack and, while you go last, the exarc is "hidden" in the squad and so you'll almost certainly get to go. And the claw gives you higher strength (the biting blade only goes higher if you hit with everything and initial attacks will be lower).
But more importantly the claw is a can opener. I've been able to take termies out handily using my scorps due to the claw. With a biting blade my unit would simply have been sunk.
You don't always have to strike last with the claw either, you can use the chain sword at your normal int or the claw and which ever you choose you still get the +1 A for two CCW.
The biting blade, being two-handed, would tend to be replacing whatever was in your off-hand. It also has a base strength of 4 so the first time you hit anything it gets boosted to S5, a second hit= S6...you get the picture. This means that after hitting twice you are striking with the same strength of the powerfist and if you hit a third time you go beyond. That's why I vote for biting blades as the claw not only strikes last but has the same average strength as the biting blade. all your paying for is a shuriken catapult and last strike.
Terminators aside, the sort of unit you'll be fighting as often as not will be WS4, T4, and have a 3+ save. Even on the charge you only get 4 attacks with a biting blade so even though you'll probably be wounding on a 2+ the most common result is to not get a kill at all and you're pretty unlikely to get two.
However with the claw you'll get 5 attacks on the charge and usually kill 3 of the MEQs.
And the claw does even better relatively since without the extra attack the odds go up that the biting blade won't get it's bonus strength. And that goes double against units you don't hit on a 3+
I would only prefir the biting blade against a unit/model that had a lower save, WS under 6, and an initiative under 6, but that very deadly if they get to go.
Having a hard time thinking of units like that.
Good point, I forgot that fists/claws ignore saves.
hmm so what is the biting blade useful for fighting then?
