Hi all, I'm just starting a Tai army, and so far all I have is a box of firewarriors. I was just wondering what is best to get next? I'm battling with a friend who is chaos, and his 500 point army is as follows:
So what do I need to beat him? :-P
- 1 khorne lord
- 6 csm +melta gun +rhino
- 6 berzerker +melta +rhino
- predator tank with autocannon, heavy bolter side sponsons and a havoc launcher
he has no way of catching up with you if you can take out the tank. Get a railhead and some gun drones. If you can bait him around the table long enough you can whittle him around teh board picking him off model by model.
Basics first. If you have just bought a firewarrior squad, you have enough for 2x6 squads and you only need a HQ to fill the requirements. A shas'el would be good. I think you should equip him with some anti-transport (plasmagun and missile pod is good for both transports and spacemarines).
After requirements are met. I think you should have at least one or two crisis suits to deal with the pesky rhinos and heavily armoured troops. that leaves you with maybe 100pts to spare which could got towards more firewarriors, kroots or indeed suits. You might have most luck against his army with crisis suits, as they are hard hitting and you can hide them out of sight and only pop out at the shooting phase. Hit and run is the only tactic to kill those things!
If you decide to get expanding (also for the fairness!) you should get a battleforce. they are good value and gives you a good basic force to deal with most armies. Just add a Hammerhead or two and you have a good size of army.

Those melta guns wont get close to the railhead if you take out those rhinos. And the lord can be swamped by gun drones. and then there is the thing with firewarriors being dirt cheap.
In theory you could just have one railhead deal with the tank and a XV88 to spank the rhinos then you load up on gun drones to harrass the enemy with their annoying assualt move.
a cheap rail head and 2 XV88:s about 230 points
12 fire warriors about 120
I would get a suited commander with missile launchers and burst cannon and a shield drone
dont know how much that is maybe 105 leaves you with enough points to get 6 gun drones I think.
then its all about placement. you dump the XV88 in a woods in one corner and the railhead in the other with commander and fire warriors and gun drones in the middle. If on average you should loose either the XV88 or the railhead by turn 2 but by tehn there will be no rhinos nor tank on the table. your firewarriros can take out the rhinos and teh pred too with side shots and luck and as soon as those marines diesmbark make sure they stay out of cc and blast them with railgun templates and gun drones tehy will never catch. enjoy
I would get a Crisis suit to be your HQ unit then maybe a hammerhead with a railgun or maybe some stealthsuits with a fusion blaster in the unit. Then i would get more firewarriors.

I agree with everyone who suggests crisis suits. They add a very mobile element to your army, as well as brining in weapons that have high strength (to kill vehicles and wound marines) and low AP (to ignore marine's armour saves).
Deathrain suits (twin linked missile pods and targetting arrays) are great for knocking out the rhinos and the hitting the marines. There is a good thread about these being discussed right now.
Fireknife suits (missile pod, plasma gun, multi tracker) are a good all purpose suit that is equipped to help deal with power armoured marines. The plasma is going to wound and ignore armour saves and the missile pods are useful for the reasons outlined above.
There are a lot of other suit options (and you should experiment with a few to figure out what you like) but those two are easy to use and good to learn about Jump Shoot Jump with.
