Welcome to Librarium Online!
well im new to eldar and i will be purchasing an eldar army and well i think my fav units are scorpians and rangers and ive been reading and people use scorpians but i have seen very few people using rangers, maybe i am just not looking hard enough but could some of the vet's of eldar tell me if the coolest looking eldar models are worth it?
also could some one give me a army list that will work well in games but also be fluffy and have a wide spred of eldar units
p.s. im going eldrads craftworld (carnt spell it lol, but know what it is)

Pathfinders are awesome against MEQs, not so much against hordes.
They kill IG heavy sqauds and hurt monsterous creatures very well also.
In hard cover a 2+ save means you pretty much have to assault them.
Ive learned to repect the pathfinder.

I've been addicted to World of Tanks lately and neglecting my IG... But it is so... much... fun!
Guys you're leading him in the wrong direction, unless you play nidzilla and deathwing a hell of a lot, then dont take them. They're for terminators are MC's. I know they look great on paper but they simply dont have enough shots to do damage. Killing a marine a turn isnt gonna concern your opponent much.

I think a small squad of rangers can be good, as they are very hard to shift if in any sort of decent cover and can 'hold' a flank or area fairly well by themselves. Maybe they won't kill many models, but you can pick off one or two terminators every turn, or something similar - small, elite units and the like.
Thing is that they need the cover to be useful. Now, as per the rules, you will have cover to use, but sometimes in friendly games (tournaments as well) you may have bugger all.
Another thing they are good at is drawing fire. Your opponent will pump fire into them to shift them. Fire that could be hurting your other units.
And if they just ignore them, then you can keep plinking away, forcing pinning tests and disrupting units.
They are good models though, and I field them for that reason and the fluff!
But I call to God, and the LORD saves me.
"Solo" there pretty much somes it all up.
Rangers are good at:Drawing Fire/ Holding ground: Sit them in a City ruin and watch most shots bounce off the walls of around them.Pinning Tests: It may not be all the often that you actually pin something but when u do, one of the most devastating effect is its annoyance.Annoyance: I find that haveing a 95 pt squad (5 Rangers) that just doesnt die sets an unprepared adversary off his game. they will have to commit a massive amount of fire power to killing them or they will ignore them in that case you can continue to chip away at a squad causeing Pinnning tests.
of course Pathfinders are only better at the above, throw in a fortune Farseer and well the only thing u need to worry about are flamers or assualts (anything that doesnt allow a cover save)
So its really up to ure playing style and army build but generally Rangers/Pathfinders are worth it.
I always advize taking 10 man squads...if its worth taking a small squad a large one is often better.
For me they are highly situationally important. When I can drop an HQ, MC, or pivotal elites they are great.
Otherwise they are a mere bullet sponge, have to stay put if you want to shoot, and often don't "earn their points back".
I take them for larger games or when I know they'll have a good target on the table. Otherwise there are other units I prefer.
