hey guys what would u reccomend against tyranids i have 3 squads of fire warriors that kick ass from 30 in but thinking about pathfinders with sky ray any suggestion? have enough haevy power 1 ion blaster hammerhead and and railgun hammerhead along with 2 broadsides do i need the sky ray?
I'd get a devilfish for those firewarriors. Fish of Fury is priceless against them, maybe give the Flachette dischargers too?
a hammerhead sub round will rip through most nids so maybe drop the Ion.
I would watch out using broadsides against Nids too because they are slow and might get caught out and assualted....at least take ASS on them and use they to take down MC's from range.
stealth suits are great against Nids too. they can decemaite broods of guants while the rest of your stuff moves into an offensive position.
XV8's with misslepods are great for taking down MC's from a decent range.
give your HQ XV8 plasma and fusion so he can take down Hive Tyrants and Fex's.....make sure he has gun drones around to maintain his IC status and to protect him from assualts though.
I would suggest browsing the army list section with the search function, come up with what you think might be a good list, post it, and we will help you with it. A general, open question like that probably won't get many responses. Do a little foot work first and we can help fine tune your list. ;Y
Welcome to LO, btw.
(You beat me by a minute sick 8^P)
Also important is its manoeuvrability and resistance to assault (static Marker light units do not fair well against Nids) so yeah I would say you would be better taking the Skyray.
The Submunnition round is awesome against Nids with their abundance of 5+ save units (even 4+ Warriors get no save). The ability to hit large numbers of models at 2+ (with ML help) and wounding on 2+ with no saves is way more useful than an Ion cannon.
If you need to you can also launch the Skyrays Seekers (both the Pathfinders and the Skyray can call the Rays seekers) which are handy against things like Tyrants.
The Pathfinders are Ok but you really have to careful to position them correctly, Nids move fast and they can be on a unit in two turns, so place the PF in cover and have some units close by (Fire Warriors are good) to lay some fire power into any Nid unit that gets tempted by the PF unit. Kroot with hounds are also good as anti assault guards but avoid Genestealers like the plague. Taking the Skyray will also distract attention from the Pathfinders.
Last point 'Synapse' always prioritise the synapse creatures, use your XV8 Missile pods (if you have em) and any other weapon that is in range to knock synapse creatures down. This will make it easier to deal with the remaining Nids as they will be reduced to instinctive behaviour.
Watch out for fast units like winged warriors and Stealers with scuttle, but primarily target the Synapse creatures and use the Hammerheads and you won’t go far wrong. Last point I would advise against the XV88's they do not tend to do well against Nids.
Post what your opponent is going to use and we can give you tailored information.
Another possible XV8 configuration to consider is the Firestorm (MP/BC/MT) for that extra shot over the Fireknife for hosing Gaunt hordes. I know it isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it does work against low save models, and it has the higher strength weapon to do damage to the bigger beasties too, even if they do get their save!
