But I'll be damned if I can find any shield drones on any sprues.
Anyone care to help me out on this one? I feel like a real amateur here, lol.
Incidently, this forum is a real interesting read.
Simple, don't attach the Pulse carbines to the Gun drones and cut off the little sticks that you stick te carbines on. Personally, I try to use 2 antennae for them too.
Post your army lists in the ARMY LIST section! Not that hard!
Yeah, converting gun drones to shield drones is simple, quick, and probably cheaper than buying actual shield drones. I don't use gun drones, but they come with pretty much all the Tau stuff. If you don't have extras laying around, oh well, just buy some to convert. Plus, they actually look a good bit better (beefier, so they look like they could actually be tough). I converted a bunch for a tourney and everyone that saw them commented on how much better they look than the actual shield drones. When they noticed the converted drones at all, that is.
Okay, cool, I think I'll do that. I have more Gun Drone sprues than I'd ever use (meaning more than attached to my vehicles).
Just hypothetically though, how would someone go about buying real shield drones? As far as I can tell, it's not grouped in with any of the boxes purchasable from GW, and I can't seem to find a bits site, on or off the GW site, that sells them.
Thanks for the modelling advice.
I got a couple of home made shield drones from a bits box at my local game store. They took two drones and glued them together bottem to bottem and drilled a new hole for the stand in what was the top of one of them. Every one i play with calls them my hamburger drones but they still look good i think.
Actually, my favorite shield drone mod did something along those lines.
Drone with two antennae, with a second, smaller disk (like the Crisis shield wargear) mounted inverted and centered underneath, but pivoted at 45 degrees on it's perimeter edge.
Wish I could find you guys a picture.
I just threw it together right now, and it looks pretty damn good. I suggest you guys give it a go with your left overs
I left the carbines off, too, plus I color-coded my drones: gun drones were terracotta, shield drones ice blue, and ML drones a medium green.

Shield drones were hard for me to figure out for a while, but I just pin-viced 2 crisis shield bits at angles to where the carbines on gun drones would normally go, leaving just enough room to put the stand on the drone, and just stole an extra antanae from other gun drone bits, the look pretty good and definetly stand out. I show to every tau player i play and they all really like the idea.
