A few topics ago i saw someone saying a pheonix lord in a falcon is just evil. I was wondering if its a viable option game play wise. The fluff seems great, swooping down to help the eldar army and id love to paint up a falcon in a pheonix lord style. The only PLs that seem viable imo are asurmen, jain zar and kanderas (the others are to specific in there rolls and i want cc pownage!). asurmens nice with the dire sword and invunerable save, jain zars ok with the executioner and furious charge and kandares has a stupid amount of attacks with the powerfist (8 on charge!). Any thoughts?
Someone actually agree's with me on Phoenix Lords in falcons? hooray.
Asurmen is good because he can fight alone without needing to send a squad along with him. Jain Zar is good because she's so [relatively] cheap and can still fight alone. Fuegan is freaking awesome when put in there with a squad of warlocks or harlequins as he can unattach and go and do his own thing (charge, blow up a tank, whatever) whilst the harlequins/warlocks eat whatever the falcon landed on. Fuegan is the best Phoenix Lord at operating without being attached to a squad.
The other phoenix lords don't do so well in there, Karandras doesn't like losing infiltrate and fighting with warlocks/harlequins and he hates being alone. Baharroth can't fit in and Maugan Ra can't shoot out.
The general tactic is a second turn charge so shouldnt take to much incoming fire, also cc should block some LOS to my tanks and the rest of my army. As an eldar player ive never realy tried the "shove fist down enemys thoat" tactic beloved by blood angels and there ilk, but with around 2/3rds of my army going into the above configuration it seems like im gonna give it a go!

Why does everyone neglect Maugun Ra's combat potential? he can jump out, shoot (provided fleet isnt needed) then charge. He always does better than Jain Zar for me...
Maugan Ra is a god of close combat. But the other phoenix lords are better at it (except maybe Baharroth). Thats why Maugan Ra is generally chosen when he can take full advantage of his shooting as well as cc (say...accompanying an avatar or pair of wraithlords down the board).
And Jain Zar has a pretty amazing triskele as well. Up close her shooting probably does more than Maugan Ra's.
As for your other falcon mate consider leaving it empty. Have:
Falcon /w shuriken cannon, shuriken cannon, holo-fields, spirit stones, vectored engines, star engines-210 (Phoenix Lord in here)
Falcon /w starcannon, shuriken cannon, holo-fields, spirit stones-195
Send a vyper or 2 in front, followed by the falcon and wave serpent, falcon being slightly closer to the enemy and the 2nd falcon behind that. If a squad gets brought down to 5 or 6 men left it can pick them up before they drop below scoring, or it can carry things like pathfinders onto objectives.
Seeing how he can jump out, shoot x SX with Fast Shot at BSX, then charge in at IX, AX, with a SX Power Weapon.Maugan Ra is a god of close combat.
I'd say that wins.
Edited to remove stats. Don't post stats, as per forum rules. ~LN
Correct, he can do all that.
But Jain Zar can jump out, fire 3x super triskele shots at the same BS, and charge in with the same amount of attacks, +1S over Maugan, and will always strike first. And costs slightly less points.
Maugan Ra is incredibly good at this kind of thing, I'll never deny that, what I'm saying is that the other phoenix lords are better.
