So I was wondering what other weapons people give their shooty warriors. It would seem to me that ST's would be the way to go, since they're the cheaper of the two, but then again, that rending might come in handy if you get charged.
I was just rolling this very same idea around in my head today.
In my pondering I came to the conclusion that I prefer rending claws to scything talons. I just think that since tyranids don't get power weapons, we might as well take what we can to ignore armor any way we can. Plus, since it is only 2 more points, I am okay with it. Rending claws is easily justified IMO for the added expense of two points. Woo hoo for rending!
I don't run shooty warriors as they have the lowest ballistic skill and only average strength. That said, there are ways of fixing both these problems and some will swear by them.. the much respected Iron Angel is one such person. If you are going to use shooty War's, use them as shooty warriors, not a half-mix hybrid.
So, in answer to your question, ST or RC; neither.
The key thing here is, although you can take two ranged Biomorphs, you can only shoot one... so, you guessed it, take two Devourers and they become twinlinked. Same for deathspitters. This solves the lack of BS (re-roll hits) and will, in differing ways, solve rather average strength issue (re-roll wounds or increase strength accordingly).

Nothing to see here, please move along.
Toxin sacs / enhanced senses twinlinked devourer warriors are very impressive.
I'm sad that I didn't get mentioned in the much respected commentary /cry.
If you're going melee, go melee. If you're going shooty, go shooty, as stated by weezhard. Paying points for anything (even when you have to buy some kind of weapon) on the hunch that you'll play poorly and get a non-cc unit caught in cc is unwise.

I field my only unit of shooting warriors with talons. The reason is simple. I like how they look with talons. 8X
Twin linking would work fine for devourers or deathspitters, but when you start twin linking venom cannons that gets a little pricey.
Mine are currently deathspitters and ST's with a Venom Cannon/ST warrior.
Why? Because of the bits that come in the box, there are not enough rending claws or deathspitters (for twin-linky) in there. There are sufficient Devourers, but I wanted a bit of range.
EDIT: No there arent, not enough devourers in a box either, so you need to wait until warrior box number three to get enough rending claws. Or dismember some genestealers. and box three for enough devourers.
Not to worry, I like warriors anyways....soon have enough bits
