Welcome to Librarium Online!
So I'm working on one of the new lord models and am having trouble coming up with an idea to paint the res orb. Any suggestions?
I was thinking about trying to do a sickly green/black swirl or something of the like. My army is based on Scab Red mostly, with gold highlights. (I tried to emulate Necron codex, pg 43 bottom right example.) Incidentally, if you know how the orb on that page was painted, let me know!
I like the sound of gloss black and a bit of lighting effect around the hand.
I don't own the codex but I can tell you (near enough) how it is done if you post either a picture or link.
Up, up and away!
My Lords Orb was painted DA green mixen with Shining gold, to fit in with the colour scheme for my army. With a red colour i think a silvery metallic will be far better suited if you want to give that type of look a go, though a darker gold or Tin Bits may work. Possibly give it a coat of gloss varnish afterwards too.
Well i like the color of dark blue with lightning effects with skull white when painting orbs. I havent painted mine yet but i am thinking of doing it like that....I guess will be awesome!
Thanks for the replies. I'm thinking of trying Scorpion Green with black swirls throughout. It'll mesh into the army color scheme pretty well. I feel that the necron army is naturally a very green-based army, though thats more than likely subliminal coercion by all the examples in the codex. Honestly though, the only green I've used are highlights on the flayer and some of the gun's tubes. Well, all the warriors eyes as well. Overall, the army is heavily "scab red" based.
The big thing that I'm having trouble with is the black highlights. Maybe I just need to refine my brush-stroke, or seriously work on my free-hand ability. But then again, I've only been painting for about 8 months now.
Thanks for all the input. I'll try to take some pics over Christmas-time and post them for feedback.
