Aye, for Christmas im thinking about a load (6) carifexes from ebay (muuuch cheaper there) because ive always liked the idea of a shooty zilla list! Hopefully with that small number of models i will be able to have a fully painted 1500pts army ready for the new year! 8X
From what ive read i understand that these lists are much better when shooting rather than trying vainly to get into CC. I also understand that i will need 2 tyrants, 3 elite fexes and 3 heavy ones, and also 2 units of 3 ripper swarms...
Has anyone any ideas on how to arm these guys (especially the fexes as it looks like im gonna be building them first)? All this dakka-fex stuff confuses me tbh. What would be the standard zilla list at the 1500pt level?
Anyways thanks in advance for peoples replys.

imho for a zilla list you lack creativity , something a balanced list can provide.
for the 3 elite carni's.
most people take Enhanced Sense and 2x twin linked devourers.
that's just under the 115 points.
or you can go for the CC carni with 2x scything talon. but msot people don't since it's too slow
for the heavy support you'll probably be going for a sniperfex.
you could try a CC heavy support carni with some defensive upgrades. but again probably won't make it half way the board.
so that's a zilla list in a nutshell

Nidzilla list can be very competive but in all honesty they get a little dull after awhile (I haven't played my nidzilla list for probally almost a year now gone with a balanced and I think considered less cheesey by others).
Still what you have is the basic cookie cutter format which I think is ineffective since I find you need some support units which are for me 2 lictors (you need those rerolls for reserves plus they can tie up heavy weapons squads for a turn or two) then I usually get zoanthropes for a psychic choir (or all three of them have psychic scream) which will help immensely against non fearless armies and swarm armies (such as IG). Also I find rippers a waste of points in a Nidzilla list as genestealers are so much more usefull since they can actually kill things in CC. Their main use is counter assault and to get your TMCs back to shooting also raveners are very good at this as well.
Well there some advice on the list but its all up to you how you want to run it.
Is it me or does any other necron player get annoyed when they see people saying "Necrons eat souls". How is that even possible as souls are part of the warp and necrons want nothing to do with it? Eh probaly me just me being picky.

I just wanted to say that you shouldn't buy six carnifexes off of ebay...If you buy 3 you only need to buy the body sprue from GW to make 6 as long as they are equipted differently than the first. (Means you can buy and make 3 Dakka fexes, and then have enough bits for 3 non dakka fexes, which I would recomend only using two of). And I also recomend getting stealers instead of rippers. Rippers only tie things up, and can only kill really weak hordes; stealers kill low save models which is what carnifexes struggle to kill (no ap, and only 2 attacks doesn't fair well against terminators).
To combat this, I mostly run a swarm list, swapping in and out different Zilla TMC's for flavour. So, go for a Zilla list by all means, but expect to be purchasing lots of Gaunts/Warrior/Raveners etc fairly quickly otherwise this gets mind-numbingly boring
A dakka fex (best description I have heard as to the origin of the name is a Gatlin gun sounds like Dakka, Dakka, Dakka, Dakka when fired) is a Fex with ES and 2 TL Dev's. This provides a good number of high strength that re-roll both wounds and hits. Awesome firepower for the cost and fits nicely in the Elite slot.
A Sniper Fex has longer range weapons; making the most of the Fex's strength - typically VC and BS. Add biomoprhs to suit, typically to increase %hit and survivabilty.
I suggest taking some time to read THIS LINKY (Tyrant and Carnifex build reference file) as there are some great builds listed (aswell as some average ones!)
Nothing to see here, please move along.
Dakka is the consensus for the standard marine bolter sound, not a Gatling but yeah, that's the idea, a machine-gun fex
