I can't make my mind up for a color scheme for my Tau army so I thought i'd ask you lot so.....
White. Well, most of the armour is white (with blue patches - kind of an ice or urban camo)
Undersuits (for those that have them) are grey.
I voted green. Other than the fact that green is my favorite color, I was inspired by the color scheme of the sample Tau army on the US GW site. I just thought it was a really cool color scheme. 8Y
My army is white with black undersuits. What can I say, I'm a huge Star Wars fan and the idea of stormtrooper themed Tau appealed to me. Thankfully the coour scheme hasn't affected their accuracy, in fact I hit more often than I miss.
I did find that while white does look good on the fire warriors, my stealth suits, crisis suits and vehicles looked a bit boring and plain and so I also have panels painted in black, grey and orange as they are from Sa'cea.
I like a block of colour to denote the sept as I don't like the barcode patterns GW suggest. I figure information such as rank and ID would be recorded in a transmitter on the armour/battlesuit that registers on helmet/battlesuit screens (like in Republic Commando).
i have a forest like camo with black for all the cloth. I also used old aquarium plants for thier bases and I have been told that they look like they're from Endor.
I used beige. It's easier to work with than white, goes well with a lot of colors and gives the troops that 'advanced composite armor' look.

Dark Angel's Green and Skull White 10:1 for the armour
And Bad Moon Yellow sept colour
Lol, it's my job's colour scheme for their flag, ironically.
What do you do when it's 5 in the morning, you're exhausted and you only have 3 hours until your alarm clock goes off?
My tau's paint scheme is black undersuits, Gold plates, white and gold squad markings and extras...
The reason is they are from a desert world so gold is kinda like camo, but still with a bit of flare. I was very tempted at the start of my armies development to go white armour however, and would put that in as my second choice.
But tau can really be any colour you want, I would only keep one thing in mind; its good to have the armour and undersuit contrast, it makes the armour all the more eyecatching.
Hope this inspires you somewhat,
Now that...was cool...
my army is marpat camo...
Black undersuit, white armour.
I went the hard way for my first 2 squads and nearly died painting white over black.
Then I saw sense and sprayed them white and filled in the black.
Red lines to denote squad markings, veterans have red helmets. and the more red on the grieves the higher the rank.
Finally my stealth suit are black with a green ink wash, I was going for a Metal Gear Solid Stealth armour effect.
I used Mithral Silver for all the metal bits so they look shiny and new when compared with the boltgun metal of other armies
