Welcome to Librarium Online!
I was wondering about your opinions on this. I would hate to spend money on an army then have them outmoded in an instant like that ( not really an instant but if they have cooler models then...sucks for me). Your thoughts?
I'd have to say that you're safe for at least a year or two; if you want to start Necrons, go ahead. ;Y
I had a similar dilema with Dark Elves.
Basicly, if you like the current range of models, then why not go for them? Even if they are re-done, you still have a army you like.
And personaly, I reckon the entire range kicks ass. Its a very nice looking army.
So try not to let looming updates stop you from collecting an army you really want!
As far as i know they havent even beem mentioned in rumors as being in line for a new Dex. The armies that are being done in the coming months/years are rumored to be (in no paticular order)
Orks, just around the corner
Chaos Deamons, Dark Eldar, Space Wolves, Deamon and Witch Hunters, Space Marines
Hordes of Chaos, Chaos Dwaves, Dark Elves.
Thats just a few, off the top of my head, that will probably be done before Necrons will. Given thatthey are released about 1 every 3 months then you have a good couple of years set right there. Also the release of 40K 5th ed is coming soon, and that will take up a good amount of time.
Id say to expect a new Cron Dex in... 3 years. Plenty of time for you to have good reason to begin with the current army and their awesome models.
I'd agree; go for it. If you're worried about getting screwed over though (however unlikely it may be), just don't go with too radical of an army idea. Something that could be easily adapted. Luckily, you most likely won't face that problem with Necrons due to their relatively few unit choices.
Yeah, the model range looks great. Even if an update was coming out in 3 months, I doubt there would be significant changes.

...and nothing in the Dex says that you have to use THE LATEST models anyway...
