I'm looking at running a brood of warriors with tiwn linked devourers in my balanced 1500pt list, rather than the shooty brood I have at the moment which consists of Barbed Strangler, Venom Cannon and Death Spitters.
Reason for this is it makes them alot cheaper points wise and the re-roll to hit AND wound will negate the lowish strentgh and BS skill overall, making them more effective than the current configuration.
Bascially the tactic will be for them to hang back with the two sniperfex I have, keeping the fex in synapse and will mainly be lending a hand when the opposition start deep striking stuff at me to eliminate the fex. Sort of like a fex guard This means my fex can concentrate on destroying tanks instead of worrying where the tau battlesuits or terminators are gonna pop up.
I have another Warrior brood which is pure leaping CC beasts and they will be charging up with the troop broods and the winged tyrant so i'm covered on that front.
My main questions are:
a) has anyone run this config on warriors before? and how did it perform?
b) how do you model the twinlinked devourers? I was thinking of modifying deathspitters with double devourer heads and having two feed tubes going into the same gun.
Cheers all in advance!
But, on to the topic... The TL-Dev's on warriors work GREAT, but I think they're wasted if you keep them in back to guard the Carnifexes. They should be staying near the middle of the board where they can still fulfill the role of taking care of deepstrikers, but also be forward enough to give the swarm some anti-infantry fire support and synapse. Remember, all Tyranid weapons are assault, so you can move and still fire, so with the 18" range you can still get back to that fex. Also remember that a Sniperfex does not need synapse, once he is positioned you can always lurk with him (no need for a synapse roll) and still fire his weapons, and you only need a synapse roll if you want to move him and even then there is only a 1/12 chance of failing it, and even if failed it moves towards the nearest synapse creature, which should be forward, and can STILL fire it's weapons..
I think they look best modeled so that the top arm of both sides is the devourer and the feeder tubes come from below, but it takes some work with greenstuff and maybe a little plastic melting with a lighter to get it to work. They really look silly if both guns are on the same side, even more so than for a Sniperfex.

Search for posts by me. Good call.
Sitting the back with the Fexes is a bad call. They should be moving forward with the swarm and twin-linked devourer tyrants, spraying down infantry units. The BS and Strength are NOT low. Strength 4 is excellent anti-infantry, and BS 3 is fine when you're twin-linked. They are superior against any infantry, including terminators, relying on rule of odds to kill things (which is more reliable than fewer shots with better AP).
I would also recommend you not use a winged scything talon tyrant. Fluffy, but ultimately a failure at causing wounds for its points compared to what a tyrant wielding two twin-linked devourers does, INCLUDING close combat. In short, 12 shots per turn re-rolling misses/wounds + better base non-st stats in close combat than any comparable in-game hq choice vs. just 2 extra cc attacks and crap for ranged.
I just put two devourers on them *shrug* and cut the feeder tube nubs off the other arms, leaving them disconnected. Works fine, and gives the warriors a compact, machine gun look. The devourer arms are basically converted into just plain "arms" by removing the connecting nub that would go into the devourer, and it enables me to splay the arms out a little and give the model a more fearsome appearance than it has if you jam the guns up in and try to connect them tube-wise.

Thanks heaps for the advice, i'll probably push them mid board now like you say, so they can do some damage with their lower range and also still be able to help out the fex IF they get into any trouble from deep strikers.
And thanks to both of you for the ideas on modelling, i'll have a look and see what i like, I've got plenty of devourers lying around so I can experiment a little.

how do you model TL devours?
Use the TL devours form your fex spurs, then take a pair of the ST, use some green stuff, and a knife to turn them into the other two limbs to attach the bottoms of the devourers. If your inexpereced in modling this should be easy, you don't even need to use green stuff just glue the shaved down arms to the bottoms or the Devour arms.
Don't worry about the guns looking oversized either, the TL devours look good attached to a worrior with EC and such. much better than taking the tiny devourer arms from the gaunts.
