it seems with the new realease of the ork codex alot of people are asking what to me is the ancient ork question. slugga's or shoota's?
i dont want to ask what is better, i want to ask about the different uses of both, what tactics do you use for either of these units?
either your trukking or footslogging, i'd just like to know all the tips and tricks you have concerning these two units.
Vampire counts 0-0-1
-For my when I look at the use of slugga/ choppas 2 army compositions for orks come to mind. The first is what was the traditional speedfreak list. If your loading your trukks with boys wiith the idea of not bothering to shoot, you should probably be considering using slugga/ choppas. The additional attacks off the charge will go a long way, especially now that standard orks will be I 3 during the first round instead of I 4. That one point of I goes a long way, and will drastically reduce attacks. If your going with trukks/boys you should be maxed to 12 with the Nob with the PK
-a 2nd army composition for slugga/ choppa could be the massed footslogging army based around the new waaagh ability. This would involve taking massed squads of boys, probably 30 strong, and utilizing the warbosses waaagh as well as the psychic ability waaaagh to try and move as fast across the table as possible. Considering with a little luck you can get back to back waaagh's- turn 1 psychic ability, turn 2 warboss, you should crash into your opponent on turn 3. While this army is a little "brutal" and will be trying to overwhelm with attrition, no player can say they want to face an ork army of all boys backed up by stormboys. The idea would be to crash the boys into the front, and use the storm boys up a flank or deepstrike in with Zaggstrukk or come from behind with Snikrot... or combine all 3.
-This is what I see the majority of ork players beginning to run. Basically utilizing 2-4 20 strong mobs with either bigshootas or rokkits, most likely rokkits. The army will be rough to face by including a big mek and field for that 5+ cover everyway. Plus have an entire army with range 18 assault 2 guns is pretty hard to top. The idea will be to run and gun, then waaagh when you get close and crash in. With the points reduction for the average boy, its hard to consider this a decent tactic.
-Shootas in trukks could be a decent fun list. The idea of trukks that move 12, then have a squad shoot 18 out is kinda entertaining. Is it good? Probably not, but it would be entertaining having an army consisting of "drive by boys." With the new trukk rules it could be a viable army.... but makes me thing its "gorkamorka" made into a 2K list. The idea would be to load regular boys 12 strong and drive and shoot, leaving your heavies for battlewagons which would load up either tankbustas, nobs, or burnas boys.
40K-Beakies(9-14-4),Guard(4-7-2),Orks(34-12-11). FANTASY-Dwarves(15-6-7),Beasts (14-14-1), Skaven (17-17-10) DoC (6-1-2). CYGNAR (28-15-1)
Mouse said everything that I would have (and then some). That's the best summary I've seen of the uses of Slugga Boyz vs Shoota Boyz.
