Welcome to Librarium Online!
I purchased some sniper drones a while back and i was wondering if they are actually worth using in an army list.. because broadsides are way better.
another question.. is the spotter jump infantry also??
Thanks in Advance
The unit is not a jump infantry. The sniper drones are not for the same purpose as broadsides. Nor do they replace broadsides nor could a broadside unit replace a sniper drone team. I dont think a single unit of 3 drones is as effective as 9 drones for their cheap cost giving you that many anti meq shots and taking up 1 HS slot.
My upcoming blog in the works:
In my experience they are not all that grand. But that being said the two marine players i usually go up against seem to really worry about them and put a lot of effort into killing them. The first few rounds there will be more lascannon shots at them then at my hammerheads wich is damn fine by me.
I use my broadsides as anti armour so my railhead can switch to anti infantry.
as mentioned about Sniper drones aren't jump infantry like other drones. use their stealth fields and decent cover to keep them safe.
Everyone else has overlooked the fact that sniper drones give you a BS4, Stealth Fielded markerlight. It's a nice bonus.
Sniper teams tend to do well in the lower point games and are ideal in combat patrol. Bigger games mean bigger targets to take down, which is when you'll want Broadsides.

Also, because they only give you one shot each its alot of points to pay for 9 shots that hit 50% of the time, or 66.6% if you hit with your markerlight....which has a 33% chance of missing!! oh my head!!
you need to take the full 3 units to make up for the loss of the heavy support slot so its a fair amount of points for only 9 pretty much static shots per turn. you need to ensure that they can't be assualted or shot at because as soon as they have to move you are lossing a round of firing.
like i said they can be a great weapon against MEQ's but (from my experiance) they lack the number of shots to be of much value against anything with less than power armour in my opinion.
Considering what other armies pay for similar weapons, that cost is actually incredibly low..
That's also assuming you even use the markerlight to boost the sniper drones. When I use sniper drones, I use the markerlight to support the hammerheads and firewarriors and the sniper drones just fire away at whatever either needs killing or pinning tests. I actually consider it a very inefficient use of the markerlight to use it to slightly boost three measely sniper drones as it is far more valuable elsewhere and the drones do fine without it as long as you don't count on them hitting. Use them as support, not as as sure thing.
I think the sniper drones can be very effective if used right, but they can also be useless if they are placed poorly or if your opponent decides to kill them in the first turn with a Basilisk.
