The other day I was playing a friend we play together a lot and he loves facing Dark Eldar. However he noted that I don't really use Fast Attack Slots at all in my army...
I was just wondering how many people use fast attack slots... We only have 2 choices there Jetbikes or Hellions. And both of them don't seem to do enough for me for their points cost... On the odd occasion I have used 3 jetbikes with 2 blasters but generally I don't bother with them because for around the same points you can get a Sniper Warrior Squad...
Was just curious if people are the same as me and don't really use fast attack options that often.
I guess I have found that the ammount of speed available to the rest of the list makes the fast attack choices not really needed.
Occasionally I've seen jetbikes used with great effect, but not often. Hellions, well, I don't know, I'm still working on a way to use them.
yeah, i have never had any great luck with either unit. Tank hunting reavers is ok, but not great. Hellions seem to hit nice once, but then fall apart. Never worth thier points in my experience.
Yes, fast attack is badly named for Dark Eldar!
The only FA I use are “Tank Hunting Reavers” or more correctly named in my army “Anti-indirect Fire.” Things like Whirlwinds, Basilisks and Biovores need a counter and this is it.
I would even consider using Combat configured Reavers against things like Devastator squads.
Hellions are really for 5th Ed, if and when it comes. But if you must use them then try a squad of 3, 1 of them with a blaster, deepstrike them next to some armour and get your one and only free shot.
For around 70 points worth of cost you may get lucky and take out over 100 pts of armour.
In a controversy the instant we feel anger we have already ceased striving for the truth, and have begun striving for ourselves.
It does seem funny how DE are so quick and yet we really lack something in the Fast Attack slot.... Always thought that something like a Vyper would be nice...
Its interesting about the use of reavers to take out indirect fire enemy units... problem is that I have never faced armies with something that does it... in short I only seem to fight black templars (only marine chapter that can't get Whirlwinds!!!lol) Marine armies that don't think that they are any good... and CC Nid armies... which is fun when your 13pt wyches rip apart genestealers and broodlords. lol
I might start running 2 units of 3 Reavers with 2 blasters. Which i think if I play well can always at worst make a last turn grab for objectives and or table quaters.
Every once in a while I use a Bike list and end up filling in all the slots but I could easily say that they remain empty normally - my last game I did use a 4 bike tank-hunting squad.
When I play with Kroot I will usually use either the Kroot Houndpack or the Tracker kindred which are both "Fast Attack" selections.
I am tempted however, to try Hellions soon. I hate not at least trying them once with our current codex even though they appear to be over-priced.
To Be Completely honest I Use BOTH! haha,
I Like too use the Hellions To Smash/Hold Up stupid things i dislike on an Extreme Level! then have something else finish w/e is left
and the reavers, i took out a Dreanought AND a land raider in consequetive Turns so i think both are a plus...
BUT i guess its on your opponents Game play and Your Timing/Rolls

Although I am fairly new to DE, this post brings a question to mind. Where are the rules posted for using Kroot with your army? And are there any other types of units you can ally with the DE?
As for the games I've played, I occasionally use both the jetbikes and hellions. But it doesnt usually go well. I guess like a lot of others, I'me trying to find a good use for them.
The problem with Reavers and Hellions is that there is nothing they can do that you can't do more efficiently with something else.
Every once in a while I'll run the 3 Reaver/2 Blaster squad or even more rarely, a 6-(wo)man Reaver Squad with Succubus and IC, but the first squad is just for hidden tanks and table quarters and the second is just for fun.

i used to run a 3 2blaster reaver squad. But they never really did anyhting that was too effective other than distract crazy fleet creatures like khorne zerkers or penitent engines. The problem is that if you start them on the board and you are running a WWP army then they get ahead of your army too quickly and don't have the staying power to stay alive. While if you put them in the WWP then by the time their time comes around all your troops will charge into combat and so you won't get much of a chance to do damage with the blasters except against vehicles.
Now that might sound ok. Until you realise that now there aren't many targets for the vehicles and troops not in combat to shoot, and the reavers are looking pretty tasty. So down go the reavers.
So basically they get a lack of support and as a result die badly most of the time.
Dear Game Developer,Caps-Lock, its like cruise-control for AWESOMENESS!
