Welcome to Librarium Online!
I’d like to talk to you guys about Tomb Spyders!
For 55pts we seem to get quite a nasty chunk of metal it counts as a monstrous creature so it can chew through armour and tanks with ease, it tough and fearless. Plus it can continually create scarab swarms to assist it and shield it from heavy weapons. And all of this for a cheap 55pts
Take nine of them and you’ve got a scary sight for your opponent, now isn’t that a bargain? I'm considering converting 9 of them in my army so I'm looking for peoples views and experiences with them?
Probably best if you remove the points costs, not allowed on the forums.
the odd one or two are nice, but 9!? Id prefer my Lith, or even Heavies, i think.
Yeah tomb spyders arent too great apart from the rare one or two, and also I've never gotten why individual point costs are not allowed on this forum, but unit point costs are. All it really takes is too divide the unit size by the unit cost and theres your individual point cost.
i love the idea! As long as someone else tries it, that is. I think tomb spyders are a bit underrated as assault support, especially against MEQ and Termies. My problem is that I only ever manage to squeeze in one, which is too easy to kill. I don't like creating swarms with them because of the majority toughness rule and because it is too easy to wrap wounds to the otherwise very tough TS. You've got the whole min/max thing going here, however. I don't think your opponent will have any idea what to do if he sees 9 of those beasts formed up opposite him. Post a picture of his horror, if you would!
The major argument against your idea is phase out. With a third of a 1500 point list eaten up in Spyders, you'll have to bring a ton of warriors just to get the Spyders into combat and to present a threat he'll have to consider. I'd guess that if every heavy weapon in your opponent's arsenal is free to blast away at your lumbering Spyders, the game might not go as well as you hope.
