Welcome to Librarium Online!
Well, i've been playing the DE for about sixth months now. Yet, I cant seem to wrap my mind around the Shredder. The description confuses me a bit. Has anyone been successful in employing this weapon? And if so, could you help me understand where it fits into the arsenal of the DE?
Well, for the most part no, the only time it's more useful than a blaster is vs guard and tyranids. They are mostly there to make it seem like we have more options for our troops.
It is basically a hand held shadow weaver... one of the light kin weapons...
It shoots a monofilament mesh wire net with barbs on it, the more one struggles against it the tighter it becomes... well that is what the fluff will tell you.
If only they could make it a better in game so it would be a viable option against a blaster!
They were slightly better in 3rd ed but with some rule changes have really made them useless now. Used to use them a bit more than most with some effect but blasters are more viable. Pitty...
i would argue that blasters are more effective against nids and gaurd than shredders even... so really no point. blast templates in this edition really are not effective. Now. Next edition... still not that great but getting there since there is no partials
Dear Game Developer,Caps-Lock, its like cruise-control for AWESOMENESS!
Rock is cheese, Paper is just fine
WWP and other Dark Eldar how to
The Shredder is all about use against lightly armoured swarm armies but its 12” range lets it down along with the amount of models that you will generally get under the template is always never enough.
And when compared for choice alongside its main competitor, of the Blaster/Splinter Cannon combination, it’s not as effective overall.
The Splinter Cannon will cause more wounds against troops and the Blaster is the perfect companion for things that the cannon can’t deal with whereas the Shredder directly competes with the Cannon in an inferior way.
The Shredder can be used well in multiples against things like Gaunts, but this use is quite specific.
In a controversy the instant we feel anger we have already ceased striving for the truth, and have begun striving for ourselves.
The argument I've allways seen against using shredders over blasters is how effective dark eldar are in an assault against GEQs. It allways comes back to balancing so that you minimize the number of attacks the enemy throws back at you without stranding yourself in the open by totally annihilating them in a single round of combat.
Personally i've allways been one to take the stance that "if it will kill a space marine, it will kill something else just as easily" and given the blaster is 5 points cheaper I think it makes the choice all too easy.
Yeah, I like the blasters too but they are hard to find or get a hold of. I have resorted to giving my warriors a sawn-off splinter rifle with some sort of large, tapered and blunt cone attached for the barrel. It is a kind of mini-lance after all. The tree stumps from the battleforce work OK!
I am constantly raiding toy shops for Gundam parts to make a better blaster equivilant. The Japanese make some cool looking sci-fi weapons.
As for effectivness, the shredder is a possi-kill against all-comers whereas the blaster leans closer to a defi-kill.
