Hi, I was just wondering what is better, Broodlord or Hive Tyrant?

90% of the time you will want to field a hive tyrant. The Brood Lord comes with two restrictions that make it hard to field. It does not have fleet and you are required to field at least 5 stealers with it.
The tyrant just rocks hard 100% of the time.

I found your question a bit more tricker to answer, because the answer is really going to depend on other variables.
I think the overall answer would be the Hive Tyrant.
What got me taking a step back for a moment is that the Broodlord should easily be considered one of the best CC units in the game. If the Brood Lord attacks a Hive Tyrant, there's a good chance with its higher initiative and some exceptional rolling that it could totally destroy one in the first round of combat. And in terms of retinue, the brood lord has a more nastier offensive one, than the Hive Tyrant's Tyrant guard (which tends to be more defensively oriented)
- It generally has better defensive stats
- It is way better in shooting, thus can be effective as early as the first turn
- It can be pretty efficient in CC, especially if you give the unit wings
- Its counted as a scoring unit (which is the main reason I think its better)
In general, I think the Hive Tyrant is better since it can be much more flexible in missions.

In most situations, tyrant. The broodlord is a fun unit though. It does take more skill and forethought to use the broodlord.
Tyrant = hammer
Broodlord = scalpel
Hive Tyrant hands down.
Most of the reasons have been stated already, but the Tyrant is nearly as good as the Broodlord in close combat, better against vehicles in all respects, has phenomenal anti-infantry capacity, and doesn't require the acquisition of a pricey retinue to accompany it. It's a scoring unit, has a better save, more wounds, better toughness, considerable initiative and weapon skill without upgrades. You can make it fast with wings. The list goes on and on. It's simply a better unit.

Broodlords do look good though.

there are a lot of aspects, here is what i think:
Close Combat: Broodlord, better stats with an offensive retinue.
Shooting: Hive Tyrant (Broodlord cannot shoot)
Vehicle Killing: Hive Tyrant, has access to Tank kiling weapons.
Durabilty: Broodlord : The Hive Tyrant has one more wound and toughness point, but Broodlord has access to larger retinues, is not a Monstrous Creature, and can have the same save as his retinue. Also, he can get into combat faster, thanks to Infiltrate, which lowers the chance of him getting shot at.
Flexibility: The Hive Tyrant is as easy as: Point towards the enemy and say "Go fetch!" for close combat, and for shooting, just shoot at squads till you die. Pretty easy. The Broodlord is a little more fragile, and needs to be used with finesse and wise thinking. Use him to atack elite squads, characters, ect. without getting shot at TOO MUCH.
Tangibles: Hive Tyrant, is a scoring unit.
Winner: Hive Tyrant with a 3 to 2 score.
Consider having both in your army for a deadly one-two punch. I have both in my army.
The Brood Lord will also suffer heavily if the mission you play does not allow infiltration.
Contrary to the above poster, infiltration means that the broodlord will actually be shot more, since he'll infiltrate in a nice rapid-fire range--unless he's forced to infiltrate over 18" away, which is three turns of being shot at if facing a gunline opponent (which is likely). Normally, you'll take 2 turns of being shot to pieces.
Without a doubt, the Hive Tyrant is better. The Winged Hive Tyrant will be able to skip around cover to stay out of LoS. It also has enough high strength attacks to pretty much kill anything short of a skimmer (and even then, bio-plasma). Equipped with twin-linked devourers, it can wipe out entire squads of Space Marines in a single turn--and can charge after shooting 12 times.
Also, if you happen to have a retinue with your Hive Tyrant, it can't be picked up by that wonderful powerfist/klaw you'll find in most squads. Broodlords, as IC, can.
The Hive Tyrant is better but more expensive. The Broodlord is decent, but the random variables in using him make him a sub-par choice. I'd choose warriors over a broodlord.
