With the advent of the new daemon codex and army book next month, i was thinking about how to counter all those invulnerable daemons. Could warscythes be more popular once the Daemon armies start appearing? Could those pariahs actually be worth it now?
The obvious answer to that would be yes, I think, but for one issue...whether or not they'd ever get to use them. Despite the unarguable value of warscythes vs. an army that has a large number of invulns, the fact remains that the Pariah is still a low initiative unit. Unless you're going up against a large number of Nurgle based forces, I personally think that you'd have a very hard time ever seeing the Pariahs getting to do much of anything in an assault as they'd be cut down rather quickly...one must also remember that those selfsame daemons tend to have a large number of power weapons/rending/whatever that would ignore your 3+ armor saves, and without that the single Pariah squad you would have would be just so much meat and machinery.
Unfortunate, yes, as I really like the Pariah model and would like to see them come into their own. As it stands now, I don't really see much use for them aside from fighting OTHER Necrons (1+ over most units for initiative and no WBB from warscythes) or as flank marching assets going Titan hunting in an Apocalypse game. Just my opinion, mind you, but that's how I see it.
The resons most people see Pariahs as overpriced is that they dont fit with the rest of the Cron army. However if you use them as if you were fighting using Marine say, then they are a really good unit. You just have to accept the fact of no WBB, like other non Cron players do!
Problem with the Lord in CC... ignoring saves is all well and good, but its the fact he struggles so much to do the wound in the 1st place. Just 3A at WS4 is not good enough...
Phoenix: Ah yes, but the necron way of things is via attrition, and the right configuration of Necron lord can last a very high number of combat rounds indeed, and with S5 he's bound to get wounds in here and there. Its good to make sure such wounds stick.
Nevermore Chapter: 6200 pts; 97/49/11; Longest Streak: 9 Wins/4 Losses; Nearing Completion
In all honesty, after my Lords recent performances at 1K with just a Dbody... he will be getting a Warscythe from now on. I just seem to always be coming up against termies, or Tzeentch with their 4+ Invs... And, i guess that i somehow i do actually manage a hit with that WS, may asell make it worthwhile. So, out goes a swarm, in comes a Scythe.
Heh, look at that... i changed my opinion! well, not quite.. SoL is still better all round.
