So i finally got to play some 40k over the weekend, its my first game after collecting/painting and reading strats and such for about 6 months. I am playing Eldar and my opponent is Dark Angel Marines.
We both kind of had hard spots to set up, and we are playing cleanse. We didnt get to finish the game, but by the time we get done with turn 3, my scorpions (10 man squad) had taken on a 6 bike squad (kill 4 on the charge), and held that ground with 2 other 5 man tac squads assualting them the next turn. Until the third turn when my deep striking spiders could come with power weapons to help them clean up. (first turn charge with my scorpions thanks to infiltrate and stalker)
Is it normal for scorpions to last against 2 5 man tac squads and a bike unit (2 powerfists overall) for two+ turns? I know i got lucky on the rolls a lot in this game and was wondering if that is what saved them or was it just being scorpions.
While only 3 survived the combat, i destroyed 3 units with 2, one being a 6 bike squad. We only got to play 3 turns because of time constraints but i had a 'solid victory'. Can i expect this performance from my scorpions normally?
scorpions are very powerfull, whilst against marines they dont kill as well as banshees or kiss equiped harleys, yes they can do what you experianced, the only concern is the power fist/weapons which if you can get to to quickly wont be a problem.
2 things though: only the spider exarch has power weapons and mroe importantly, you cant get first turn charge with scorps, (or shouldnt be able to , if you infiltrate you aare normally 18 and sometimes 12 inches, that 12 inches is almost impossible to accuratley measure
Everything you have been told is a lie!
all and all i think i used his strength against him, he wanted his termines down so much that he comprimised a lot of his other units. and his termies only killed a 170 pt DA squad. Ill take that trade any day.
cool then, well done, best to keep the autarch with the spears so he can benefit from their hit and run, also dont know how you have teh DA tricked out, but defend and shimmer shield will keep them kicking for a while in combat
Everything you have been told is a lie!
the reason i split the squad is because my autarch was in the back, and since he is considered a 'separate unit' for close combat he wouldn't have be able to stick with the squad and get into combat that turn, so he went directly to them instead.
that leaves me something that i just thought of, is a jetbike considered a skimmer, so does the opponent need 6's when then move more then 6 in?
You had 10 which is good, I would never bother with Scorpions unless they were in a unit of 10. They are excellent and very nice models. Using a unit a few lower than 10 is too easy to pick out.
I love scorpions, and they seem to get alot of attention from the enemy. I has a 6 man squad vs a nid player, and they took a 19 model gaunt charge like champs, and finished them off the next round. Very resilient unit to say the least.
I never leave home without my scorps.
Just to keep the heroic tales of scorpions going I once had a squad of 10 plus exarch with all abilities and the claw get the charge against a squad of khorne zerkers held them down even when another squad of zerkers piled in but the scorps still held strong all the way till the 6th turn. The squad was down to the exarch and 2 scorps by the end of it but they tied up two full squads of zerkers the whole game. Blessed be the dice gods!
2500pts Emperors Children
1000pts Dark Eldar Cabal of Agony Eternal
In larger battles, I currently use two ten man squads that infiltrate, they have yet to let me down.
Last time I used them Tau shot the squads up except the exarchs which jumped from squad to squad, the other 1600 point of my army pretty much just to sit back and watch.
What once was courage has now cursed in the wars we've made.
