Through watching this forum I have seen that the two most popular Autarch builds are:
1. Jetbike Autarch - Jetbike, Mandiblasters, laser lance, assault type ranged weapon. Usually run with a squad of shining spears.
2. Warp Spider Autarch - Warp-Jump Generator, Mandiblasters, Fusion gun, Powersword (sometimes Scorpion Chainsword). Usually run with a squad of Warp spiders.
This thread is not to discuss the merits of these two builds. I would like to find out if anyone has a particular build that varies from those shown above that they believe is really effective.
I'm also interested in any Autarch build which follows the fluff detailed for the Autarch in the Codex, which says something along the lines "Autarchs will often swoop down into the fray to change the course of a conflict with a single well-placed kill...Duelling with enemy leaders and destroying war machines with contemptuous ease". So far the only stand-alone Autarch I have thought of is one with swooping hawk wings for use in combat patrols.

My Autrach (jetbike, laserlance, mandiblaster, reaper launcher) is mounted on a Vyper, the reaper launcher is represented by an eml mounted on the Vyper. Looks rather cool.
I look for an Autarch build with fusion gun instead of reaper launcher. I will take this Autarch to the GT final in October.

I have on occasion used my Autarch with a batch of howling banshees. It's like having a half strength Jain Zar. There are very few things that strike before an autach and already has plasma grenades so giving him/her mandiblasters & power weapon and a batch of angry women gives a nice punch. When used in this combo, my banshees +exarch usually kill most of the line and my Autarch kills a few more... I haven't done the math on this but it works decently.
Edit: My normal build for the autarch is the warp spider build you described; however, I do use him somewhat like the codex describes. Warp, fleet, second warp to safety then next turn assassinate some huge tank or melt a SM commander or inquisitor cowardly hiding behind his forces. It's all in how you use him.

Meet My Autarch
Ive had great success with a swooping hawk/power sword autarch against tau, but hawks just rock against tau in general.
Ive also heard of people haveing alot of success with the swooping hawk /reaper launcher build. Just harassing and repositioning against SM. O stick him with some dark reapers and blast away until a unit tries to draw in close to CC kil our reapers but surprise surprise your autarch with a power weapon is there to help.
And the fluff in the codex for the autarch just doesnt match his build at all. He is more suited for supporting your aspect warriors with impressive punch. If your tr to use him as some kind of mighty one man army chaos lord, your going to be eaten alive.
Hope this helps

An Autarch build I have have had luck with is
Swooping Hawk Wings
Bouncing from cover to cover, hunting stragglers or lone vehicles. Sometimes hidden within a squad of swooping hawks.
As long as she is not the closest model, she can't be targeted, and against non-MEQ's, she's a beast.
* "I'm Significant!" -screamed the dust speck
* "Call me old fashioned, but an evil ascension to power just isn't the same without someone chanting faux Latin in the background."
I run the same as Forsaken - have never really tried any other kind as a) don't have a bike squad to join one with and b) never really needed anything else.
Dovie'andi se tovya sagain (It's time to roll the dice)- Mattrim Cauthon
When I get mine painted up I'll give him a good run and see how he goes.
Does Yriel count? If so, what I like to do is chick him and some Banshees into a speeding Serpent (ie, the 36" moving one). Turn 2- I drop them out, Yriel goes one way and the Banshees go the other. Yriel is a killing machine, capable of picking off so much it isn't funny, and the Banshees are just annoying to face.
I've seen those 2 win games on their own.
