Welcome to Librarium Online!
Who do you think is more important to Tau society, an Aun'la or a Shas'o? Theoreticly A Shas'ui is higher rank than a Aun'la, but I'm certain the Shas'ui wouldn't be above giving his life for even such a minor noble.
Where is the line? Are all Ethereals inherintly more important than any rank of any other caste? Is a Kor'o more important than a Fio'o? Do you need at least an Aun'vre to control a Shas'o?
Am I the only one who's thought of this? :a Anybody think I'm a useless loser? :o
I dont think you are, just hopelessly lost in a world of darkness. I think a Shas'O is more important, ecause it is like ocmparing a wizard apprentice to a warlord, the warlord is more important.
in the real army here on earth the oldest and wisest and highest command sargent major must always salute even to the greenest and unexpirenced luetenant. Your basicly asking if a general is more important than the king or lord. To the Tau all ethereals, even the newest or the youngest are treated as if they are the center of the universe, or a pope like emperor. They have this enchanting aura about them that just screams "hey im in charge ...look at me... i know exactly what to do... and if i die then run away, or make your LD test and avenge me" Were as Shas'Os are just really famous or experienced generals who serves the Ethereal and even he may turn and run if the Ethereal dies. so in my opinon the Aun'la even though inexperience, would be more important and respected. speeking of respect, shouldn't he get like 4 firewarriors as bodyguards like in the game?
If you charge a bunker and die, its called being reckless, but if you charge the bunker and win, it's heroic!
I think the reason of confusion in the book is that there really is no telling what level an Aun is when you field them in combat. Maybe the Ethereals used in combat of are higher levels then ones in the 'la and 'ui levels.
No matter what the rank of a Aun is I beleieve they are living symbols of faith to the tau'va. I would go so far as to say that if a Shaso and a Aun'la were about to die and you could only save one the firewarrior would save the Aun above all else.

The aun come before all else, the tau race as a whole owes them a dept for saving them from the mont'au, a aun that is just a child would command more power and respect than a Shas'o ever could. Apart from this, it all normal (Kor'o could command an Shas'vre).

This is how I look at it, an Aun'la is like a Jedi padawan, training but has the highest respect. A Shas'O is like Rebelion A-Wing Commander...IMPORTANT...yes..but does he get his name in the jedi archives when he dies..... no,he's just remembered .

I suppose you're right, but you'd think that on sept's like Vior'la, the Tau that are the most effective on the combat field would be seen as, as greater beings.
An Aun'la would be obayed by a Shas'o hands down, an Aun'las Baby would be more important than the Shas'o Ethreals are so important to the Tau, if an Ethreal said to the most powerful Shas'o, cut ur own balls off and use tham as earings, hed do it in a flash.
PROUD TO BE IN THE BRITISH ARMY.

Surely he would say...
"cut ur own balls off and use tham as earings, for the greater good".
"Aye, for the greater good" *snip*
