Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm new to playing orks and have a quick question about the orc choppa. I rember reading somewhere on the forums that the new choppa just counts as a close combata weapon. But on page 46 of the rulebook it says that under "heavy close combat weapons" the orc choppa is named as an example. Course it also names the Korn bezerkers chain axe, but the difference i see is that with the new chaos codex the bezerkers chain axe has been replaced by a plain old close combat weapon while the orcs still have there choppas. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
The prior Ork Codex, out when 4th edition rulebook was published, included Choppas as HCCW's.
Upon the release of the current Ork Codex, they no longer have the Heavy Close Combat Weapon rule, meaning there basically (as far as I know) aren't any left in the game, since Khorne Berserkers no longer have them either.

MVBrandt's got it right. The heavy close combat weapon rule no longer exists as such. None of the armies have units that use them in the new batch of codex's so you can pretty much just ignore that rule. You'll notice orks got furious charge instead, so all in all its a fairly even trade off (as hccws are really only any good against MEQs)

This is a big hit in my opinion. Thr armies i face most are marines, chaos, and necrons. Would rather have choppas then furious charge any day.
What is dis signature nonsence?! dem stupid human zoggers are always trien to confuze us.
Dont sweat it. Statistically with the cheaper point cost of boyz, the amount of MEQ kills orks output hasnt changed. So there is no difference between the old dex and new dex in that respect...except that you get more boyz for the same point cost, and have the ability to be fearless and a fleet move. Plus...furious charge is a big boost against anything that was toughness 5 or GEQ's. Only thing that it hurts us on is terminators, but when you consider the amount of attacks a boy squad is getting plus the 4-5 powerklaw attacks from the nob, not many small elite 2+ save units will have the numbers to survive the onslaught anyway.
Joe Peshi (lone wolf) kill tally:Lash Sorcerer, Ghazkull, Yriel, Termi Libby, Vulkan.
I remember being told this once before, but codex will always override rules written in the BGB.
But it doesn't matter, they get furious charge, mass numbers with barely any spending, and a huge variety of weapons to use with minute accuracy
ok so Heavy CC is out, so they're not like 2 handers or w/e in regular 'hammer, but ork nobs still get 'Uge/Big Choppas. for 5 points, in my opinion, these are great for ripping up marines and other armored foes (battlesuits included). if my 27 point nob in a slugga boyz unit charges in and wounds 3 times, marines will save 1-2 wounds, losing 1-2 16 point models, and he's already paid for himself. theyre 5 times cheaper than power claws, for about half the effectiveness, and they dont go last in CC
