As the title says, im having problems against eldar.
Im sure my problems come from my lack of experience but i just want to make sure that it was not a problem with my list and just my tactics.
I run a dracon on bike with a power weapon
2 sniper squads
and cc reaver bike squad the scubus has a tormentor helm and power weapon
the opponet had 2 squads of warriors with a scatter laser
a squad of harlequins
and an avatar
(i dont know much about the army so this is off of vague memory)
The first turn I turbo boosted my hq and jet bikes and just kept blasting away at his troops with my dark lances
His turn he was able to wipe out 3 of my 5 reavers and my Hq
The next turn i hit close combat with my reavers but the avatar was able to finish them off after killing a few of his troops
The last few turns of the game i kepts knocking out this troops with my dark lance, bu their was no way to come back
Was their a problem with my list? my tactics? I kno im gona lose the first few games but i just want some more expierenced opinions on the game

Personally I would drop the bikes and get yourself some Wyches on a Raider. This is because at the points level that you are playing the bikes would soak up a lot of points and you will find that you don't get much out of them.
Its sort of hard to give you advice guardians with Scatter lasers are quite nasty and you will need to take them down as quickly as possible. One possibility is to drop one of your Sniper squads and replace it with a raider sqaud that has a splinter cannon, blaster, and a Dissie on it... that should knock out those squads quicker while your sniper squad would focus on the Avatar.
I don't know if this would help... hope it does.
There is nothing more annoying when your Wyches with Plasma Grenades get "Always strikes First" for their combat drugs!
Wytches are a must, they are perfect for killing harlequins and the avatar. Aside from that, hmm... Scatter lasers are the bane of DE. I'd almost recommend a Talos as your opponent would have a lot of trouble killing it. But I have no idea where the points would come from.
I was lucky enough to get both my sniper squads into a nice 4+ cover save, so the scatter lasers took about 3 turns each to kill them
I have tried to take a raider in 500 points and it gets killed 1st turn (all 4 times i tried it) before i can even move it. Would taking more then 1 raider at 500 points be worth while? I can see it helping but 1/5 of my army being spent on just raiders seems like alot

Deploy your raider behind cover so if you lose the roll for first turn it won't be a viable target.
Raiders are cheap for what you get - and raider squads are always a good buy. I think at 500 points I would start my army build with a warrior raider squad and a wych raider squad with a cheap dracon for HQ.
Your loss sounds like a combination of lack of terrain, learning a new army's tactics and a poor list. The bikes are too many points for 500 point games.
(below is a generic take all comers list that should work)
Dracon w Agonizer, Drugs, Field
7 Wyches + Succubus w Agonizer in a Raider
2x Sniper Squad
The Sniper Squads shoot the Avatar to soften it up.
The Raider moves up 12" behind cover OR directly towards one unit of Guardians (only if you can assault them this turn) such that if they shoot it down it will block Los to one Sniper Squad. The Raider then shoots either the harlies (if in plausible los range) or the other guardian squad (the one your wyches are not assaulting).
The Darcon disembarks and assaults the Avatar.
The Wyches pile out and jump the Guardians.
On his turn he likely piles the Halrlies into either your Dracon or your wyches and close combat continues. He'll either have 1 or two scatter lasers to shoot depending on if you were able to assault turn 1, so hopefully your lance teams are deployed in cover sufficient to survive.
On your turn again your darklance teams focus on the guardian squad not in cc (or the one that won't be assaulted) and the Raider either moves and disembarks the wyches or moves 12" towards and shoots the unengaged guardian squad, ideally getting in the way of its los but don't boost to do it, you need the Disintegrator attack more.
If CC is going poorly then think about moving up your lance teams to rapid fire the winners.

Spliter cannon's and dissie's
that's it, thats all you need. basically the str of splinter cannons means you wound on 3+ you hit on 3+ also, i reccomend footsloggers, find some cover and keep shooting it will make him come to you and you have the better I or equal if he charges, also your in cover
make sure you have terrian as others suggested, its hard to keep those raiders safe and it takes a while to learn how to do so.
as everyone else suggested you hide raiders first turn, then you find new cover and hide closer to your enemy on the 2nd turn, if you can't find cover you move and disembark, as close to your enemy as you can and get your cargo into cover. The most important thing to remember about DE is we can move at great distances even on foot, so don't leave stuff in the open especially raiders, FOF greatly increases our tactics since we can move up to 18" to get a charge.
at this stage you should be within 12" possibly 14" if you have done it right, then you simply move 6" FOF 6" and charge giving 13" to 18" movement. You should make the charge with anything on raiders by end of 2nd turn, if your not, your doing something wrong, this also includes if you have to disembark and get cover to protect that raider squad.(i know this won't always work but in most cases it will)
DE is about being sneaky and using our speed and great HTH potential.
I am a great fan of big warrior squads, people say they are too slow, i say no. They are only slow if your not using them right, big warrior squads consist of 15 men + syrbarite, 2 SC's and 2 Blasters and weapon of choice i usually go with poisoned blades as you don't really want to get into HTH with these guys, you really want to get into a fire fight and then rapid fire and use blasters when ya can, then of course let your opponent charge so you can strike first, makes sense really when you get to know how to use them.
Best way to use them is to move and FOF first turn possibly 2nd turn too, your opponents get worried when everything in your army moves fast, they panic and don't prioritise correctly.
one other thing is this we begin the battle roughly 24" away, if you move 12" first turn disembark and fleet thats an extra 3-8" therefore you should be roughly 6-12@ away from your opponent, its something to remember, every DE vet knows these stats it just takes a while to get used too.
If you're always worried about crushing the ants beneath you...you won't be able to walk.
All good advice!
Just another nuance - I use raiders as disposable troop delivery systems rather than things that are worth protecting. They're not scoring units, so they're primarily useful for keeping wscoring units alive.
After a raider has deposited its contents I use it as a distraction unit - it moves aggressively fast, shoots annoyingly, absorbs heavy weapons fire, and when it is destroyed adds cover to the board for my walking troops. Raiders are better than rhinos at this for three reasons: they're much faster, they have weapons that most prey will really desire to get rid of, and they're long thin things that make great cover when they are destroyed.
My Kabal's unofficial motto (Archon Rust tends to kill anyone using it in his hearing) is 'Everyone walks home'.
Everyone walks home... that's perfect!

Hi, I have been looking at all this for a while now.
Try this, since your opponent really only has 3 squads that can shoot why don’t you present more targets than he can fire at by using 4 Raiders with 5 warriors each and one with a splinter cannon.
The HQ can still be a tooled Drachon with the usual shadowfield, agoniser, combat drugs etc and then placed onto one of the Raiders.
This should spin out to about 500pts and what you are relying on is cover to move up whilst embarked or if cover is sparse deploy your troops outside of the Raiders and use them in the lead – this is a judgement call to do upon sighting what cover is available on the day.
The plan is purely firepower, lances target the Avatar and troops with HQ go for the rest.
One thing to try and engineer is to use one the Raider’s movement as a springboard to assault the Harlies, this is the one unit that I would concentrate on as the rest should take care of itself – dice gods willing!
