Hi i'm thinking giving my dh army up for a while and starting a Tau army. I have always gone for close-combat armies and i would like to try something a little different. I want all-out fire surpremity and i love the stealth suits. I was thinking of going for about 3 fire warrior squads, 3 broadsides, a hammerhead, 1 squad of stealthsuits, some gun drones and a shas'o. Would this work or should i keep with my dh?

Your going to want 3 Crisis suits instead of 3 broadsides, get 1 maybe 2...

DH is a cool army I would seriously reconsider stopping them, but Tau are awesome and promising too, so its a tough coice.

I agree with slackerhauk, get the crisis instead of the broadside. Although the railgun and 2+ save are tempting, they pale in comparison to hammerheads. Stealthsuits are also a great choice, and the kroot are really up to you. I know I dont use them, but if i have a few extra points, a meatshield is always nice Anyway, if you really need heavy support, go for another hammerhead instead of broadsides, because of their limited mobility.

but can't you get a team of 3 broadsides?

I've decided to go for Tau, my daemonhunters are starting to get a bit boring to play with as my friends armies are always getting crushed by them. Also i think that close combat can sometimes take forever to get into aswell. I want to experience a shooty army, no kroot for me. I think ill take 2 broadsides instead and have 2 crisis battlesuits as a bodygaurd for my commander.

Slackerhauk is more then right on this one you guys!!! Listen, the broadsides do onlmy get one shot per turn, and on top of that, they cant move and shoot their weapons in one turn... AND on top of that, they cost a hell of a lot! Crisis still cost a pretty penny, BUT they are capable of defeating any unit in the warhammer 40k universe. You can even take out a land raider with their fusion blasters. Their burst cannons dominate units with 5+ armor, and the plasma rifles are a great investment against space marines! Crisis suits are absolute essentials to being victorious with a tau army! Include them or prepare yourself to a humiliating defeat... And about the kroot, I just realized that with a full kroot force (20 carnivores, 8 hounds, 2 krootox, they can do 66 S4 attacks, and 8 S6 attacks, and their field craft value is INvaluable in jungle maps!

I reckon you've got some guts, theming without having bought anything. I do recommend getting the Battle Force, the crisis suits, drones and fire warrior base will be useful, and the Kroot may be useful just to keep ready for if you have a rapidly closing CC enemy, just to stall for time if nothing else.

You'll be able to turn the suits into your Shas'O and guard, suitable equipped as you see fit.

Fire Warriors, I say ditch one squad and mail order a heap of drone sprues. You'll find that these will perform your shooty close range combat roles by moving into maximum range and then jetting out with the jetpacks in the assault phase.

I'm gunna say ditch the broadsides, instead, buy another Hammerhead (the ordnance blasts will prove useful) and if you have enough points/money left over, buy an extra stealth team. One is deadly, two maneouvring together and creating crossfires will be bloody brilliant.

    So that's my input.

I would say that they're a bunch better too but they have that falling back rule....so we put the Sha'o/Shas'el with them to evade this leadership rule *sincker* I like the idea of having tons of drones but it really sucks when you lose 4 and they fall back...thats why i would stay stick with 3 FW teams or 2 FW and some kroot....i tend to use one broaside one hammerhead just in case the army has some good tank killin weaps, broadsides can use the meatsheid tactics.....
