Welcome to Librarium Online!
So in the grand Imperium, everyone believes in the Emperor, and life is great. But some choose to turn their back on this great thing that everyone believes in, and as such are branded heretics. Heretics in the realm of the Imperium generally turn to Chaos in order to lay the smackdown on their rejected ideal.
Now replace "Imperium" with "Tau Empire", "Emperor" with "Greater Good". You've got the Farsight enclave!
At the very least they're heretics, but I'm feeling the same sort of schizm
My gaming group's new motto: That army you're using is overpowered because it hurts my guys, codex is broken and needs a rewrite.
The whole thing is mysterious..
Some of the theories kicking around.
* The dawn blade is a Necron artifact which has corrupted Farsight.
* The dawn blade is a Chaos artifact which has corrupted Farsight.
* The enclaves are actually just loyalists. The whole thing is a ruse by Tau high command or farsight himself.
* The enclaves still believe in the Greater Good, just in a different/heretical way.
* Without the ethereal pheromone control, the Tau have simply reverted to the way they were before the Ethereals arrived. (I personally roll with that one.)
The whole chaos thing makes little sense to me because Tau have no real connection to Chaos or the warp at all, and are largely ignorant about it. They won't have sorcerers, for example, who can channel the will and power of the Gods, their prayers won't summon daemons. Also, they're materialists.. They tend not to believe in anything beyond the material universe, so the idea of big slavering evil from the Nth dimension probably isn't very credible or compatible with their worldview.
Still, if you wanted to model and play chaos Tau, I can't see anyone complaining.. Especially if you did some awesome stuff like this: Warhammer 40,000

Personally, I'd lean more towards the fact that the Dawn Blade could be a Necron artifact that has corrupted Farsight. It does say in the old C:T that the Tau mind barely registers in the Warp, so I think they are virtually immune to the effects of Chaos.
I agree that Farsight Enclave is chaos tau, especially if you give good old Farsight a full set of bodyguard then that HQ choice have the favored number of Khorne if I remember my chaos...
But I'm pretty sure that I've read somewhere that the Dawn Blade is an Eldar artifact, but I'm not totally sure
i very much lean towards the theory of the C'tan taint, im not going into the whole
"Chaos Tau" argument because there is so much against it, im very strongly opposed to the idea, however, i digress.....
PROUD TO BE IN THE BRITISH ARMY.
~~ Surrender and serve me in life, or die and slave for me in death~~
Well, the Ethereals ability may be due to latent psychic control so a Ethereal may develop Chaos tenedcies. I would lean towards Slannesh as both slanesh leaders and Ethereals are adored by their leaders.
If O Shovah is serving anyone but Tau it will be in a misguided sort of way. he may belive what he is doing is right but he is being manipulated or something. However I am mostly inclined towards the idea he has either forsaken the Greater Good or he belives his own version is a correct of better version.
Or he could be insane, I mean. "None of the great star farers will join strength just to see their eniemies prosper, neither should we." That makes no sense what so ever those are looney words.
Tau can only really be corrupted by Chaos through possesion of an Ethereal, they'd just follw the Etehreal blindly. However Shovah could be possed too. After that they'd pretty much do any chaos rite you asked of them.

O'shovah is just doing what HE SEES as the greater good? yeah. So what he found a powerful weapon, does not mean he is corrupted, rather he has just found a powerful weapon. So what if the Ethereals died, he did not agree with the way that the Ethereals decision to let the Orks just basically left to re-group and attack Tau space again anyway, so he took it on his own head to carry the fight to the enemy, renegade leader yeah, but corrupted why? because some Ethereals were stupid enough to get killed.
To me Farsight is just a rare thing, a Tau that is an individual, he still fights for the greater good but he does it on his terms.
Why cant he just be a Tau who likes to do things his own way? is that so hard to stomach?
Self explanatory..Each must find their own wayThink about it.. Tau philosophy, as laid down by the Ethereals, basically posits that the galaxy is a nice, rational place just begging for happy little Tau to come along, colonize it, make everyone see reason and then they can all dance around in a big happy circle together. Farsight is saying that it's not, it's savage and brutal out there. Most Tau never see it.. they just see sanctioned propaganda beamed back to the homeworlds.. but when you actually get out there it doesn't make so much sense any more.if those in our heartland had witnessed the savageries of the void as have we they would know this.Well duh.. Basically, he's worked out that the epic scale of the war. It's not just the Tau expanding outwards and quelling the barbarians. These alien races have been fighting for thousands of years.. They were fighting when Tau were still in the stone age hitting each other with clubs. Millions of people have been dying every day for thousands and thousands of years..he hand of each of the great starfarers is turned against the otherAnd given that, isn't it absolutely crazy to assume that just because some newly evolved space cows come up and tell them to stop, everyone's going to put down their weapons and say 'yeah, you were right, I see the reason now.' It's not a battle for culture or religion or for resources. It's a battle for survival.. The weak will die, the strong will survive. There is no compromise.none will join their strength together just to see their ancient enemies prosper.Given that, why are we trying to unite the stars? We fight and die on our own terms, based on our own merits, not because of some phony manifest destiny.. Forget grandiose ideals, the important thing is survival.Neither should we.
