While recently wandering through the forum I read an interesting question. Tossy was wondering how to convert some of the elite choices such as stormboyz or kommandos from the standard boyz. With that in mind I came up with a few ideas.
Kommandos: On the Whole Kommandos aren't too hard to convert. By giving the boyz some stikkbombz and painting them in a camo scheme. one could easily call them kommandos. However, I always found it more fun to go into more depth. What I did with mine was to use Greenstuff to give them all a mix of berets, headbands and facemasks. Another fun conversion is to give the lot of them some kind of gear strapped to their back.
Stormboyz: MY idea for stormbpyz has always been to place the lot of them riding Tau Drones. I love the idea of watching boyz smashing at the now disarmed drones to make them go in the right direction. Akternatively, you go find other ways to make i look like they have some sort of rokkit strapped to their back. I've heard using the cap of a pen works for this.
Tankbustaz: Converting Tankbustaz from scratch can be difficult. However, as long as you can find something that looks like a rokkit (I've used IG hunter killer missiles) You can pull off a decent looking rokkit launcha by gluing the rokkit to a shoota body.
Burna Boyz: For this one I've found that having a Guard playing friend has proven useful. Most Guard players have a ton of spare flamers lying around and are usually willing to either give them to you or trade for them. In any case, by plating around with a guard flamer or two, it is quite possible to come up with some convincing burnas.
Lootas: Lootas are probably the most difficult to convert simply because you need a fairly developed bitz box before you start. I've built a few lootas now, mostly using old heavy weapons that I had lying around. With a bit of trimming so the gun wrap over the shoulder and modyfying it by strapping other guns to the base you can create a fairly decent looking loota. I've also found that it's fairly easy to make a harness out of plasticard, the trick is them to use one of the axe wielding or arms for the other side of the gun. By cutting off the axe head you now have a suitable handlebar which you can attach to the harness with a little tinkering.
Alright, those are a few of my ideas, now lets hear some more from the rest of you.

although this is not easy, this is an idea that im basing my kommandos on
maybe not to the same extreme of cheese, but im certainly gonna have one in a barrel and one in a pile of tires :p
just some ideas
i especially like the idea of going to an aquarium, buying some plastic fish tank plants and covering some of the boys and converting knives upside down. think they would make good kommandos, dagger knives, covered in foliage
Very good suggestions Morkai, I really can't add anything. Personally, I just purchased three packs of loota/burna sets, and with extre spare boyz I made a total of 12 Lootas, 12 Burnas, 3 Meks w/KMBs, 3 rokkits and 3 big shootas. You could do it out of bits though, if you've got the bits to spare.
For Lootas you need large bits boxes. Almost anything will work, but you need a lot of them. I agree, for Burnas, have Imperial Guard parts helps a lot. Tankbustas are tougher, but ultimately you could just use boyz with rokkits, and perhaps give them something on their belt to represent a tankbusta bomb. For Kommandos, I just used regular boyz, stikkbombs and a camo paint job like Morkai, although I love the conversions you showed there Rozzy.
The 'ork holding the picture of a Space Marine' cracked me up.

I'll try to post a few pics of my conversions for ideas when I get my Camera back. I'm quite fond of the Loota with the Tau Ion Cannon.
Edit: I've always loved those kommandos Rozzy. Can't remember the name of the guy who made them (Scarpia?) but I do remember seeing quite a few of his extraordinary conversions around the internet.
