Welcome to Librarium Online!
Any thoughts on loading two or more Troops of Fire Warriors into Devil fish?
I see good things;
Mobility - 12" as opposed to 6. Get those good positions.
Protection - that first turn your gonna be hurting w/ out the armor of the fish
Support - the additional Drones and Bust Cannon along with the seeker Missles make this idea kinda tastey
There is one VERY important factor you are missing, and that is tank shock! Tau are obviously not very good in CC, but when they are backed by a devilfish... no enemy can get close enough! and if they do... tank shock, fall back... laugh!
I thought they counted as skimmers, and therefore cannot do 'tank shock'

It does say tank skimmer. I never heard that skimmers couldnt tank shock. I big flying tank is as scary as a riding on the ground one.
the BBB says you can opt to either fly over enemy troops or tank shock them. If tau couldn't tank shock then why would they be given a flechette discharger?
If you charge a bunker and die, its called being reckless, but if you charge the bunker and win, it's heroic!
very true, i personally like the devilfish as good cover for my crisis suits to jump behind and it can scatter units out of the way. For a transport too the burst cannon and 2 gun drones can be pretty handy. The two guns drones can make an assualt speed bump if they withstand shooting before a unit can get to your troops.
I hadn't even thought about the tank shock aspect of the devil fish... but now it's looking VERY TAESTY.
One may even say delicious.
In addition to all the other good things that come with the devilfish, you also get the 4 Seeker Missiles that can be loaded on it not to mention having another big old target to draw shots from you troops which doesn't take up an organization slot.
at a base cost of 80pts it does seem kinda expensive to load all the troops into thier own fish though. and that's BEFORE you equip it.
All in all, i'd rathor have it.
Do any of you see bad things from this technique?
Just be careful how much equip you stick on it. As a basic transport it is one of the best and for the points you dont have to worry about buying the burst cannon or the gun drones which are included unlike the chimera. I think its the best for the points.
what i put on my devil are the decoy launchers, the flechette discharger, and the 4 seeker missles. i put a team of pathfinders in so they use the missles to take out key personnel and when they come to wipe out the finders they load back up in the fish and it shocks the force they sent after it or it runs off if they're too long range or build for tank killing
your corage was great. but you have no reeal purpose for fighting as we have the greater good. - Shas' O' Mien to surrendering gue'la commander
My anwser is definitily yes! Take 6 carbines for your warriors, then multi-tracker, targeting array, and decoy launcher on the fish. For 100 points you get the fire power of 3 warriors and 2 drones, which makes up for half it's points, then the rest provides protection and mobility. You fly up, unload, you get 8 pinning shots, two twin linked, this will almost always cause at least one death even to marines. You will kill around 3 marines a turn with the whole unit, and possibly pin them. I use two of these units to pin enemy units, then have anti-marine Crisis teams finish the squad off at close rapid fire range, then jump behind the fire warrior's devilfish and use it to block LOS.
So, yes, try the unit out, it will do better than your average 12 man fire warrior team, I think you guys will like the results.
