I have been thinking for a while, and because i dont know anyone nearby who collects 40k that lives within 2 miles of me... sooo i was thinkin gettin either a £15 of 12 tau and 2 gun drones or 20 cadian shock troopers... which will be hardest to beat and what is there total score each <_<
What the hell is the point of getting that few of troops and then playing yourself?

They have a point, i'm sure that if you look then you can find people who play 40k in your area. have you tried local book stores and hobby shops? they may allow you to put up an add to find other players.
In direct answer to your question, it all depends on the person playing them as to which is more difficult to defeat.
The 12 tau would cost a base of 10 pts each. the extra drones would be 10 pts for each gun and 15 pts for each shield. I would give stats, but then i'd be sued. looks like it's time for a trip over to the gaming store to check out Codex
if your planning to play yourself i dont think it would be much fun... lol what would you do? make up 2 strategies and see who wins or just roll dice and see who wins? lol

what's the point of collecting warhammer if you don't play n-e one? And you can split the Tau into 2 troop choices, but you can only put the IG into 2 "platoons", which is min for one troop choice.

yeah i'm thinkin the tau would probably be better 'cause IG are only realy effective when youn have them in bulk. a cisis team, broadside tteam, and two fire warrior teams can be seriously effective in a battle wheras you get the same effectiveness from two sentinel squads, two heavy weaopon squads and 3 imp guard squads
