i just started playing usf and im not sure what to use against tau. i would really like someone to give me an example of a good army i can use against them. $$ doesnt matter right now i have most fo what i think ill need. so plz help me out
Hordes of Guardians, make sure you don't use conceal...
Don't put them in vehicles, and try to out shoot him from range.

why shouldnt i give them conceal? conceal is awesome with defender guardians. its so much harder to kill them. and there is no way that i can out shoot tau with defenders since they only shoot 12". i dont think i should even use that many because in usf (which is what i play) once the portal is open if 1 guardian dies then they have to retreat back to the portal. once at the portal i gotta do leader ship and if i fail there goes a squad of gaurdians.
Use a large seer council (lots (LOTS) of warlocks). Give a Farseer fortune. 4+ re-rollable inv. save, that is quite difficult to shoot through. Then advance up with this unit (some supporting units) open the wraith gate and out come all your juicy close-combat units, Banshees, Storm Guardians, Spear of Khaine. Use Starcannons to take down crisis suits and singing spears and bright lances for tanks. Maybe shadow weavers to try and pin them, or mind war because Tau leadership is average, not anything special. Maybe some rangers, Dark Reapers are a must.

i agree with Cazzan. the tau are POOR in close combat. so u need to silence their fast units, like crisis suits and tanks. dark reapers, starcannons and bright lances will sort that out. then use the seer council to open the gate and out come all the close combat specialists. YAY :lol:

Iyanden armys do alot of damage to tau. Wraithguard are tough enough in combat, and their wepons do alot of damage to tanks and crisus suits, but don't forgit warlocks with conceal. Wraithlords have your heavy wepons and are deadly in combat.
never. iyanden wouldnt even make it across the board. they are too slow.
wraithlords would look like swiss cheese after a few railgun shots. the plasma rifles from the crisis suits would do the same to wraithgurad. the serpents would be shot to bite by rail guns as well. if u do make it to combat. the kroot will be a nice speedbump for you and he gets an extra turn of shooting....something tau does best.

I played last week against three different Tau armies, and won all three games. The strategy that I had was simple. Pin them and they cannot shoot at you. My Seer council was equiped with ES, and Augment. Eash of the two defeder squads had missle launchers, 2 squads of rangers to keep there heads down, and a storm squad to bum rush them while they were pinned. At one point a game my oppenant had nothing that he could move because it was all pinned.
If you can (I'm not sure) give the gate to a Farseer/Warlock on a jetbike, then fly up one flank (try and stay out of LOS) and open the gate by his deployment zone.
Now cometh Spear of Khaine!
what i would do is make a wall of bikes
then behind it put a falcon or a wave serpent
put banshees in the tank
then pray to god that they dont brake the wall of bikes
and deploy the banchies in closecombat
youll make a mokory of the fireworiers
also you could use swooping hawks
their exarch is wonderful, droping down first of all then getting repieteve power weopon strikes for only like 73 points, put him in a squade of 6 or more and you will kick tau in the butt so hard that they could feel it threw they brod side armor
