Welcome to Librarium Online!
hello all once again, I have started this thread out of curiosity. How do you personally use your destroyers? I for one deploy them on the flank and use them counter flanks and take out long range support.
Post away, and I would just like to say no arguing.
Well, what i am doing with my destroyers is to finish what has been left from my immortals' and warriors' shooting. Sometimes i use them to destroy enemy vehicles if the heavy destroyers wont succeed.
They're fast enough to be used for pretty much anything. Shooting them first or last depends on the situation. In deployment, have them nearish to the center of my army, behind cover if possible incase the opponant gets 1st turn.
I use them in almost every army list I make. With the large amount of units out there with toughness 4 its good to have a unit that can deal out the hurt with a decent fist full of dice, and in an army that lacks any long range weaponary their appeal cannot be overlooked.
I normally deploy them center field near the Ressurection Orb I keep my army connected to, from their I can move them to hammer the biggest threat on either flank with their large move or keep them centered.
Does anyone typically deploy them out of LOS if they have the chance? I do most of the time and then zoom them out to shoot.
Oh sorry.... but it is quite interesting to see how everyone uses what I see is our most flexible unit, I find it a little strange that they arent often used for anti tank, I always pick off back units (unless if I need to shoot at whats coming) like devi's or I dunno a defiler, vindicator, looted wagons etc etc.
There are simply a lot of weapons that work against vehicles in the Necron list, and VoDing an immortal squad to attack a vehicle will probably be the most effective. Scratch that, a full Warrior unit rapid firing. 40 dice, ~27 hit, that's 4.5 6's, and a damned good chance to cripple if not destroy said vehicle. Unless you're using Heavy Destroyers, pretty much any Necron unit with a gun will suffice against vehicles. For me the biggest appeal is the range, and the AP. Against non-MEQ armies Destroyers will tear through infantry. I leave them at home though, and take Heavy Destroyers instead so that I might deal with monstrous creature, multiple-wound model units, and the odd vehicle.
My gaming group's new motto: That army you're using is overpowered because it hurts my guys, codex is broken and needs a rewrite.
Yes those are all effective, and I don't typically use VOD destroyers are needed when theres a tank sitting 4 feet away from you shooting a pie plate every turn it's hard to get warriors 12 inchs close too that.
I use Destroyers as my main offensive weapon. Whatever I decide needs to die is what I set them after. They rank even as far as targeting opponents with my flying circus which I use in unison to focus fire on the major threats.
