Welcome to Librarium Online!
ok 1st of all i love the tau and i do think there a good army to.
#1 why the hell do the tau have kroot as part of there army but they are one of the armies not allowed to use any of the kroot mercineries?
#2 isnt the fricken krootox the worst unit in the game, i seriously can see how they could do anything
#3 is it just me or dose anyone else think its really dumb how if u want to use hounds, or krootox (ahhhh dont do it) u have to include the in a squad and use up one of ur troops choices as well as a fast attack or a heavy choice. this seems like a rediculouse draw back to me.
#4 this isnt about the kroot, but what do u guys think of the rail rifle? have u had good expiriences with them?
#5 this also inst about kroot, but they way that they describe the drone, do all of u think that they should have a BS of 3, i mean if they have the super proccessor technology like they say, and are capible of independant function, and they are able to deteck moves and crap and guard the suites they should have the BS of 3.
#6 lol sorry for all the non kroot things, but how have u guys done with drone squads, the tau really have crappy fast attack (since the hounds dont really count) and i also dont think the pathfinder should either, all they are is normal firwarroirs that have to have a devil fish, and come with a marklight. i definatly think that that hound should be able to be in a squad by them selves and that the tau should be able to use the winged kroot or something.
well i guess that all for now.
sorry if i offened anyone that wasnt my intention.
please reaspond and tell me ur opinions and thoughts.
great forum thanks
Whadda ya mean no good fast attack? Drones can be a real annoyance, considering they have jetpacks and twin-linked carbines. And most of the suits have jetpacks too! Kroot can't be taken because the Tau don't fight with mercenaries. They subsume smaller empires. Besides, they have Kroot in their list.

Tau: 4/4/3 - 50%
DaemonHunters: 1/2/0 - 33.3%
Dark Angels: 3/1/0 - 75%
I think the answer to #1 is that the kroot mercenaries represent the force of kroot that did not wish to join the tau empire
My opinion for #2, well yes the krootox could be one of the worst units in 40k, the toughness 3 is a stupid rule and in my opinion if they were in a herd i could see that another kroot would take command of the beast rather then it just running away, and that would allow the krootox to continue to move with the herd but without no shooting, as the gunner has died , but now i think about it, yes there could be worst 40k units in some peoples opinions, Shining Spears anyone  50pts vs 50pts what whould you rather have
Awwww no I opened my drawer and took out some old warhammer models then tried too put them back in and close the drawer but couldn't, damn the stupid black hole = free OOP models for Brettonia due too not being able too squeeze them back in my drawer >_<
1) Because they already have them, and the Kroot that hire themselves out aren't under the supervision of the Tau, and hence are violating some rule of their empire.
2) No, it's not. I think your stupid to call it so. It may not be good, but what else is high strength shooting in the Kroot List?
3) Again, no it's not stupid, because on their own, these units wouldn't do anywhere near as well as by themselves, and would lose a bit of meaning: When do you expect to see Kroot Hound Packs attacking the enemy? They'd just wander off, or eat the flanks of the Kroot Army.
4) Rail Rifles are watered down Starcannons. Should explain enough to you.
5) No, I don't think they'd have bs 3. It may be a bit of a drawback, but the Twin Linked status on all their weapons more then makes up for it.
6) Drone Squandrons are pretty helpful for many battlefield applications: They can be shields, fire magnets, first line of defence, pinning attempt, shield for your commander, you name it, Drones can do it. I guess some of these require a level of thought that you don't seem to have reached yet.

Wait, you mean that optimism isn't fashionable anymore?!
Lord of Smart-ass Youthimizzles.
Soup's up, bitches!
Pandora thats rediculous dont call me stupid the krootox are so horrible ur stupid for not thinking there horrible and dude for 50 points, thats rediculous i would rather take 50 points of any, and i mean ANY othe unit in the tau codex.
but ya beside the "stupid krootox comment", thanks for your imput guys.
1.Have you ever used kroot they come in handy my freind!!!
2.Errr it takes up a heavy support unit so it's a definite no for bigger games.
3.I don't think it's dumb though I dislike it, itseems more fluffy.
4. they suck...not worth the points untill you get to higher point battles
5. If they gave the a BS 3 twin-link it would be to expensive.
6. DUDE DRONES SQUADRONES ARE AWESOME!!!! before I used them I thought they would suck but now that i do they rock man i suggest you take 1 in your army no matter what the size!!!

yes i have used normal kroot, and theve been ok for some of the smaller games but if i can afford it i would rahter have all my troops choices fire warriors.
kool about the gun drones, have u had problems with there leader ship?
um and what about there independant rule thing?
they have to be a squad correct? and since u can bond them they wont regoup below 50 percent right?
Hey wouldn't it be cool if kroot shapers can have minor psychic powers like the master shaper for the mercinaries. they should limit it to one shaper per army for the tau, that way everyone doesnt load up on kroot and take psychic powers, just a thought
If you charge a bunker and die, its called being reckless, but if you charge the bunker and win, it's heroic!
Well, a bit indepth on the kroot mercenary angle. The kroot mercenaries represent those kroot that are being explicitly sent out by the entire kroot race for the specific purpose of "not" fighting for the Tau. If you've read your codex you'll see a nice little oblique referrence to one of their returning ships. The reason the kroot do this is to be able to incorporate more genetic material into their gene pools. Remember kroot evolve by digesting other races, however, the Tau abhor such practices and restrict them wherever possible. Plus, the Kroot that fight alongside the Tau are only able to fight the enemies of the Tau, and thus are limited in their choices of races to fight and consume. So in the end, the reason you cant take Kroot Mercenaries as a Tau player is because those mercenaries are explicitly not working for the Tau and without permission of the Tau.
Also, I personally like the idea of Kroot hounds, sure you lose one slot of fast attacks, but you can probably do without it for at least one fast attack and in return you get up to 8 hounds for only 48 points which have Iniative four with 2 attacks, whereas the kroot only have initiative 3, it helps alot to hit first or at least at the same time.
