Welcome to Librarium Online!
Well, I bought the Battle Force awhile ago and am getting back into 40k for the summer, and the Carnifex I got with the box I turned into a Death Beetle (and I think he looks pretty decent for my first conversion with crappy epoxy putty and unpainted). And from the games I have played with him I have loved him, but I was wondering some other people's opinions on using Death Beetles competitively. Mine can take a full 1000 point army (my brother's Chaos Battle Force and Daemon Prince) all on its own.
He costs 218 points, and he has:
Tail Weapon - Mace
Adrenal Glands (+I)
Adrenal Glands (+WS)
So all in all he weighs in at almost a fourth of the 1000 point army I plan to field (I have it all but the Hive Tyrant). I love him right now, but is he worth it?
EDIT: Is that better? I took off the costs and some of the biomorphs and he is way down in cost, I kept Toxin Sacs because I do see a surprising amount of t5 things, just I cant remember what they are off the top of my head, but I remember needing 10 strength.

Just a fair warning that most people on here are aware of the costs of upgrades and individual creatures, and its a fairly strict rule that only a units end cost should be presented and the upgrades that are represented within, nothing individual.
He's generally not considered worth it, especially in those low points. The reason is that he can easily be tied up for a long time, and he's not optimised either for shooting or close combat. Implant attack shouldn't usually matter unless he's in CC with a DP, acid maw isn't worth it since he wounds everything in the game on a 2+, Regen is generally considered too weak for its points, and t5 enemies are rare enough that he shouldn't need Toxin Sacs. Also, his number of attacks are low enough that even CSM or SM could bog him down in a combat for a couple of turns.
One final thing: you should remove the pt costs. Its against forum policy.
40K armies: Tyranids (2001), Space Wolves (2008), Sisters of Battle (2011)
Current Rep: 1337
Ok, so hes all glued together and all, do you think I should go cut him back up so I can make the changes or get a new one? My budget is pretty limited, but I think I could possibly fix it by swapping out heads with one of my extras.
EDIT: Ok the head came off without much trouble (broke off the tip of an Exacto that almost took out my eye though, but im still in tact). So everything is good, any more opinions?

Get a hobby saw. thinnest possible. Don't do conversion work on carni's without one. I had almost lost my fingers too many times to count before i got mine and the speed of the cut combined with the exactness of it is so worth it!
One thing to remember about CC fex's is that they are fun. There is something very very fun about an "unstoppable" wall of flesh bearing down on an opponent.
If you are going to push on with a C fex in a small game then perhaps a venom cannon is the way to go, although i'm not really convinced since you normally want everything stream lined. Also, looking ahead 5th is aboutto come out with both running and the new vehicle table so a pure CC fex might do you better unless you want to try your luck witha a barbed strangler (go always hits SOMETHING!). As a bonus then you can also remove senses droping the points by 30 minimum (or 6 gaunts. Gaunts, a tyranids unit of measurement)!
Symbiote rippers, probably not the useful. Not useful in 5th at all.
Thornback. Not useful in 5th at all.
BioPlasma. Really good in 5th!
Toxin Sacs. If your enemies are T5 Nurgle followers with FNP then you bypass FNP already and if they are T4(5) then you already inflict instant death, so TS may not be that great a bonus for you.
Adrenaline gland +I is good. Hits before PowerFists. Can save you life.
Everything else for a high pointed CC fex is good. They are still probably not worth while. But they are fun!
Always modify! there is a way and you've already used putty once, you can do it again!
Dear Game Developer,Caps-Lock, its like cruise-control for AWESOMENESS!
Rock is cheese, Paper is just fine
WWP and other Dark Eldar how to
haha nice watch your eyes, you need your depth perception! Unless you are trying to limit the number of Carnifexes you use it will always be useful to have a few. I was opposed to having a Close Combat Variant....until I ran into daemons and mech IG and now I am considering how useful they can be(6Chims, 2HellHounds, 3Russes).
I would use either 2 CC upgrades or 2 Range upgrades so, you could subsitute the Venom Cannon and enhanced senses with the Crushing Claw.
CC Carnifexes will give us a lot of power in 5th ed. with run as well.
So, I gotta agree with Phalanx and Splata in low point games that is too much to be spending and try to focus on range or CC.

Ok, I'm gonna try to remove the other stuff, and I have used putty, but it looks pretty bad, so I need practice. I think the only way the stuff I have on there now look good is to paint it. I hope I can do better with Kneadatite!
But yeah I think I can get the Venom Cannon off and the Crushing Claws on, and Adrenal Glands shouldn't be too hard.
Does this version of CC fex have trouble getting into the fray? Thats why I have the cannon on it now.
Also, on a side note I am getting a Hive Tyrant today, what would compliment this guy the best? I was thinking something on wings to keep up with my Gaunts, but im not sure if I want to go grounded with some tyrant guard.
With so many options and differing opinions as to how equip the carnifex (and hive tyrant for that matter) Id strongly suggest you go and buy some 6mm rare earth magnets. Cut the arms off and glue a megnet to the socket and the arm and hey presto, you can now switch weapons whenever you want. If your up to it, buy some smaller magnets too for the different heads and biomorphs. The arms have to be 6mm and rare earth (neodynium) tho or they wont be strong enough.
Oh thanks! I saw those and was wondering the size, thanks a ton I will order some today!
Should I buy the 6mm x 1mm or 6mm x 2mm, or does it not matter?
Also, should my first Tyrant be a Flyrant? I could always mount the wings on the carapace and magnetize them... But if I do choose to go that way should I go shooty (Devourers) or Scything talons?
