I know why some people may have clicked on this link, but sadly no we're not talking about genitalia, this thread is about FW squads, what's the best size? I also know how funny that sounds given the previous context but please, oh Lord please, do not get distracted by your genitals (It's difficult eh?).
I like the idea of smaller more elite squads of about 6-8 but I'm informed this will lead to dangerous amounts of cowardice in a list, I don't like larger squads, though they're practical they just don't feel right.
Who wants to contribute?
I go with 10 man squads in Fishies and that has worked well so far. The benefit with splitting up your squads is that the enemy has to divide his focus and firepower to take them out, in 5th he has to kill every single model in the unit to make them non-scoring.

"Luck often enough, will save a man, if his courage hold".
With 5th around the corner, I'm actually thinking of making mine 12 man squads. However, that said, I have four 10 man squads as well as two 10 man units of Kroot, so, its not as if I need more troops anyway. o_o
I've always liked bigger squads, but then I'm a static tau player, so I like my gun line quite a bit.
Two six-man squads that never leave the shelter of their Warfish.
My gaming group's new motto: That army you're using is overpowered because it hurts my guys, codex is broken and needs a rewrite.
Aye, I think thats why I like my units of 10 also, though in all fairness, I've never used units of 12 FW, or more than 10 Kroot before. I think I'll give it a try at some point, but I don't think I'll ever go for smaller squads.
If you're going as high as 10 I've never seen the point in not just going for 12.
If you're going as small as 8 Ive never seen the point in not just going to 6.
2 12 man teams with Shas'ui and BK and two 12 man kroot units (they can jump into devilfish in 5th) will be the core of my 5th Tau lists.
Wait, kroot can get into fish? awesome, mech tau just got a whole lot more interesting, if most of the people here reckon that 10-man is the better size then I see no reason for arguement, i'll just buy two kits ad convert the rest into pathfinders or something like that
Thanks for all the replies
Railhead: Tis up to you, but if you buy 3 sets, you'll have 36 Fire Warriors right? Enough to swap and test between 3 units of 10 (And 6 Pathfinders), or 6 units of 6. (Or even 4 units of 8 if you so wished)
Just keep in mind you need to find the right balance for you. But at least with 3 boxes you have more FW. (And more troops are going to be needed for 5th Ed)

Thanks for the tip toastee, i also noticed that with ten fire warriors you can take two drones and still access a devilfish, and drones often come in handy.
Cheers for all your help.
