Welcome to Librarium Online!
Yeah, title kind of covers this one.
What forces (if any) is a DE army allowed to ally with?
I just wanted an avatar that was different.....
I think Dark eldar would fight alongside craftworld eldar and harlequins if in a dire situation. They might also work as mercenaries for another race, which they will probably backstab later on.

-And always on LO chat..
In fluff terms, you'll be hard pressed to find them actually "allying" with anybody. Using another force as bait/distractions/fodder/whatever? That's far more likely. If Slaanesh came down on them to eat all their souls, I could, as Svalene said, see them banding together with the Craftworld Eldar and more especially the Harlequins (who have been known to not discriminate between the two forces). The question is, would the Craftworld Eldar side with them, or leave them to die? Likely the latter.
In game terms, you can ally with whoever you want (in the case of a team game, multiple players etc.). Fluff has absolutely no bearing on the rules of the game unless you want it to; however, you cannot, of course, use two armies as one such as Chaos and Dark Eldar as one force. You have to stick to the parent codex unless there are special rules for it (such as the ally rules in the DH and WH codices).
Hope this helps to answer your question.
DE kabal and DE wyches only.
we can't really team up with anyone, eldar hate us and we hate them just as much.
but if your opponents agree theres no real harm in teaming up with anyone.
If you're always worried about crushing the ants beneath you...you won't be able to walk.
The allies matrix, which is primarily used for Apocalypse, states that DE have no "trusted allies" including themselves (they are the only force that doesn't trust themselves, not surprisingly). So from this standpoint, even allying with a separate army list of DE would be a bit iffy in normal 40k, although from a fluff standpoint you could assume they were two detachments of the same cabal/cult.
In apocalypse, there really aren't many rules about who can ally with who, but the suggested guideline is that armys which fall into either the trusted, or the distrusted (but not the hated) category on the allies matrix can work together. To this end, the Dark Eldar distrust the following armies but could potentially work with them against a common foe:
The following are considered "Hated Enemies":
All imperial forces
Fluff wise, I don't know how much sense that makes (I think the guard would be much more likely to accept help from DE than say, necrons) but that's GW's take on allies.
Local fun games - anything goes
RTT events - whatever the organizers allow
Official GW run events (like Gamesday or Grand Tournament) - Mercenary Kroot can ally with any race except Space Marines, Necrons, SoB, Tau or Tyranids (as per thier codex found on GW site)
War Record Since Sept 2005
Old Codex 48-20-9 Dark Eldar
New Codex 1-0-0 Dark Eldar
A Rules answer? None. [Except in a doubles tournament and I think that it’s Orks and Nids – if it’ s important I will verify that for you later].
A Tournament answer? Kroot.
A fluff answer? Harlequins, since Harlies are made up from Dark Eldar and Eldar anyway.
But since there seem to be many and varied answers here you can see that it doesn’t really matter too much.
In a controversy the instant we feel anger we have already ceased striving for the truth, and have begun striving for ourselves.
For fluff I would say that DE would possibly ally with two forces. 1. being harlequins the other being Corsair Eldar. As the Void Dragons are known to help out DE hence we can have the void dragon pheonix...
There is nothing more annoying when your Wyches with Plasma Grenades get "Always strikes First" for their combat drugs!
Harlequins, without a doubt. Craftworld Eldar? Kind of a stretch, but as mentioned before, they would stop fighting for a little while to confront Slaneesh.
What about Tau? I don't know much about the Dark Eldar (or Eldar) encounters with the Tau. It seems that the space communists of the Tau empire would loathe the decadance of the Dark Eldar, but the Tau use Kroot who eat their enemies. So yeah, maybe Tau too.
Kroot, I love having Kroot with my Dark Eldar, and fluff vise you could say that a Archon payed them to go ahead and infiltrate the enemy forces and confuse and disrup them
Prey they don't take you alive
