Welcome to Librarium Online!
I was looking at my friends codex the othe day and realised rippers can get winged and leaping meaning they move 12 and assult 12.(quite sick) Pluss better ws and str making them 30 pnt per base i thought of getting of forgeworld 2 sets of 9 winged rippers and a winged hyve tyrant. Would it work or completely fall apart? Also i am usure about point costs for the tyrant. and what should i give him? All coments are wealcome
Winged ripper swarms are probably not going to work very well. Rippers will not be scoring in 5th even though they are troops. 18*30 = 540 which is over 1/3 of a 1500 point army sunk into models that can be dropped quite easily with things like plasma cannons (which there will be a lot more of in 5th). I'd proxy a few before shelling out the bucks for forgeworld models.
"The internet perceives censorship as damage, and routes around it."
Might want to check it out but I thought Winged and Leaping upgrades were mutually exclusive.
for the same points you can get 45 hormagaunts with toxin sacs. though the 18 bases have a combined 54 wounds they can be instant killed with str. 6+ weapons bringing it down to 18 wounds, the hormaguants can be instant killed with those same weapons but still have 45 wounds you have to get through.
A Winged hive tyrant is always a perfect leader for a Tyranid assault force. Not really a big fan of rippers though, never seem to find a good use for them. Like Zim said, id rather spend the points of gaunts.
Space Wolves (Under Construction) | Circle of Orboros (Under Construction)
Bad idea, for the reasons mentioned, and more. More importantly, it's illegal. You can have running, leaping rippers in 5th.e. but "eh" not great.
The # of weapons that do double wounds (anything with a template) or instant kill bases (anything S6 or higher) are too high to really make them a good unit, especially with the "I don't score but take up one of your valuable scoring unit force org chart selections" rules of 5th edition.
