Welcome to Librarium Online!
after i read the codex several times and searched through the FAQ i coudnt find the answer to my question, wich is:
Do Genestealers lose their rending if i give 'em Scyting Talons?
if so i have to remodel my stealers perhaps...
and could anyone please give me a short discription of the new Rending in the 5th edition?
Rending in 5th ed changed to needing a 6 on the wound roll (as opposed to the to hit) to make your attack act like a power weapon (there's a few other things in their about being AP2 hit and all, but the concept stays the same). Against vehicles the only change is the hit adds D3 instead of D6 to the AP roll.
This does mean rending is not as powerful as it was in 4th ed.

thnx for the answer.. i thought that ey would perhaps lose their rending because they dont have rending claws anymore (ST instead)
hmm thats a real pain for stealers in 5th edition..
anyway thnx for the reply
Interesting fact: mathematically speaking, 9 stealers in 5th with feeder tendrils and 9 naked stealers in 4th both kill about the same number of MEQ on a charge for only 9 pts more. That means despite the nerf to rending, your stealers are essentailly the same for 1 extra point each. Not a bad deal IMHO. The whole D3 armour pen is also mitigated by the "always hit rear AV" rule. You will now have a better chance of blowing up tanks and the like then you did before (unless its a Land Raider), and with skimmers now being hit the same way as normal vehicles.... I'm thinking stealers got a bit more attractive in fifth rather than less attractive.
4th: (1/6+1/2*1/2*1/3)*27= 6.75 (25% chance to kill per attack)
5th: (8/9*1/6+8/9*1/3*1/3)*27= 6.667 (~0.247 % chance to kill per attack)

i got confused by your maths at first due to simplification of it, but i'm now in total agreeance.
It does make them slightly less powerful in CC per point. but not by much. And considering they are scorig troop choices, could have scuttle (for a few more points) and are ssoo much better against anything but av14 back tanks (not to mention boon to hitting skimmers, which is massive) they are not in a bad position. Your only problem: do you really want to do that much damage? Now that you can't consolidate is it viable?
