I was just wondering if it would be wise to give commander farsight a body guard unit, i know that he and probably only he is the best tau cc unit, but to increase he longeivty in cc could i put him with two shas'vre as body guards (weapon combos below), the combos that im looking at are:
Shas'vre 1: Shield, flamer and plasma rifle,
Shas'vre 2:shield, fragmentation launcher (special gun from the commander box set(i used the cylonic ion thingie for the shas'o)) and a plasma rifle.
(both have hard-wired multitrackers)
I think that the flamer and frag launcher will help to thin out numbers before cc, the plasma will be used at range when closin and no cover is available, the shield will help with power weapons and nasty low ap guns while closing the gap,
would it be easier just to keep Farsight as a montat and use a load of gun drones to soak up wounds as he approaches, or just only attack like devestor or scout type units in cc,, any help much apreciated,
I think the best thing you can do to increase your CC longevity is pick another army. This kind of thing is the reason Aun'shi isn't in the 4th ed codex.
In all honesty, I think you really need to go back to the drawing board on this one.

In fact I do not rate Farsight anyway, average CC and just the one Plasma for his points is pretty bad, I would rather just use normal Shas'Els in a Farsight enclave themed list.
Ok i think il take a re-look at the list, i dont think il go with all 7 bodyguards as like Rimarku said the points value is massive il probably do four or summat like that. I prefer the enclave lists to the normal tau, as being a blood angel player having massacred lots of kroot i can see their not very gd (also no armour save), even though stuff like broadsides and hammerheads are limited the crisis suits and firewarriors all have good manoverabiltity if played right.
ok, the player might have been a battle suit player cause he used them pretty well, back to the main question, wot weapon combos would u recommend for Farsight b-guard
I've found that if you are going to be taking a large(ish) bodyguard, you need the most range that you can get. I would, however, strongly recommend that you re-read what riki said about Farsight & his bodyguards. I play an enclave force that is as much fun to play as Farsight himself, and allows a bit of breathing room in the list as a whole.
In 4th edition, I ran fireknives almost exclusively with Farsight. I found the range and ability to Rapid fire made up for the "generalist" nature of the suits. 1 or 2 SDs per suit, and you had an expensive, but relatively tough, unit. The key was staying at range and unloading on one unit at a time.
It might be a different story in 5th.

"I told you, it's not Pink! It's Light Red!" Donut on his new power-armor.
Thinking about it yeah i see ur point, might get farsight when ive gained experince usin tau, think il spend the money on a hammer head istead lol, though i lstill be playin an enclave force,
Thanks for your help guys
