I haven't played in ages (since 4th edition first came out), but I must say that the changes being made to 5th edition excite me and have made me get out the old paintbrushes. Ignoring general feelings about how the game is changing overall, I'm curious to hear what people are thinking about the new rule changes in terms of how they'll effect the necrons. With that said, whats everyones most anticipated, and most feared changes in the new rules?
Most exciting for me is the idea of the 'run' rule. I'm VERY excited by the prospect of throwing the deceiver, some flayed ones, and some scarabs on the table and having them be just that much faster. Nevermind how its going to make our CC options better, the fact it helps our otherwise slow, short-ranged foot sloggers out has me giddy as a schoolgirl. The idea of running a large group of warriors and immortals to an objective, getting them in cover, and then waiting for enemy units to get around my tarpits (yaay scarabs) alone makes me love this rule (of note: I hate monoliths, and don't like taking a lord, so with no transporting around the board my armies are usually slow). It makes my silly dream of having an all CC necron army that much more viable as well.
For obvious reasons my most feared change is the new glancing rules. I always prided myself in not having a monolith or any h.destroyers, I really don't want to have to get them now. All things considered, its still not going to be impossible to rely on gauss to pop tanks although it'll be much harder, and I wouldn't be shocked for the necrons to end up getting a boost in this department when the new codex comes out in '09, but this still saddens me. I loved watching people get nervous when I popped down a big group of scarabs with d.fields across from a predator (even more fun chasing it around and watching that person sacrifice a squad to tie up the scarabs, especially when the tank is going to get popped by destroyer fire next turn anyway). I recall one game having a single immortal in range of a landraider (rest of the unit was out of range of any target), taking the shot, and rolling nothing but sixes, destroying the tank before it even got a chance to move. I'm going to miss that.
Scarabs won't really help scarabs.
Two things really effect necrons the glancing rule whick hurts them and the only troops can hold objective thing helps them.
So I really think that a monolith will be needed in any successful necron army.
Prey they don't take you alive
in all honesty i feel that the only thing affecting them is the new glancing table. the only troops scroing is somewhat good for us seeing how we have some of the toughest troops.the glancing table though it will have to take multiple galncinghits. Also you can still pen tanks with destroyers from the sides or rears.
i wasted my whole life on warhammer so it's a good thing i have 2 wounds and a 2+invul
