Welcome to Librarium Online!
Ok, with the rather high price of Eldar transports, I have to inquire how many people can fit into their lists? Myself I usually have 4 or 5 skimmer tanks in 1500. This is to see if im low/over on tanks =)
Also, with 5th ed. I'm having a massive problem fitting everything I want into 1500. Theres my complimentary 2 units of avengers in serpents, which come to 594. Then I want Dark Reapers, Vibro Cannons, Spiders, Fire Dragons and a Combat aspect. In addition to an HQ!!
This gets even worse with 5th ed due to the need for troops!
In short how are we goign to cope with needing about 3/4 troops choices?
Quite honestly, I can't see why an Eldar mech list would need more than two troop choices. If you're playing for objectives, make sure to hold one or two and contest the rest. If you're playing for kills, just don't waste your squads needlessly. In fact, I could see mech eldar as a very tricky opponent with the new rules. I am personally going to start using star engines to make first-turn redeployments to weak flanks. My Fire Prism will also see a lot of action, now that it won't fail entirely every three turns. In addition, 5th ed allows for a lot of unconventional tactics. For example, I could imagine including a pathfinder squad in a 1500 pt mech list, just to sit on an objective being basically invulnerable. You could even add a cheap Wraithlord to force heavy fire off your skimmers. It used to take about 5 lascannon shots to kill a wraithlord. If you make sure to keep him in decent cover, he can soak around 8.
Avengers will be an awesome troop choice in 5th ed. Put 10 at an object accompanied by a doomseer or a counter-charge unit, and the enemy will need more troops to take it than you will allow them if you use your remaining troops wisely. Warp Spiders are perhaps the best delay unit you can take as Eldar. Just get into hth with the enemy, and your hit&run will keep a key squad busy for several turns.
Thats a good point actually. However I can see a lot of Focus Fire going on the 2 Serpents with avengers in them =/
Ach well, I shall try with only two units and see how it goes.
And I already plan on pathfinders, theyre awesome in 5th =D
If you are in dire need of a few extra cheep troops then just add a few small bike squads to capture objectives or the rock solid wraith guard with conceal and fortune to hold your home base.

Meet My Autarch
I know how you feel man, GW keeps making swordwind less and less of a possibility. My army never feels right without all 3 elite and heavy support slots filled, but always at the expense of only having 2 troops. It's gonna be tough to adjust, but pathfinders seem like a really good choice for 5th edition, with a 2+ coversave in regular cover now, and the fact that they now get ap 1 on a 5 or 6 to hit and rend on a 6 to wound. But at the end of the day, I'd much rather have scorps or banshees in serpents.
Swordwind is not only Tanks and Aspects... it has many scouts and supporting units.
Yes but by the time you have taken said tanks and aspects you are very thin on the ground already.
With 5 pathfinders, and my 2 units of avengers (in transport) I am at 714 points already. Thats just with troops. And I also want my Vibro Cannons, Dark Reapers, Fire Dragons, HQ.....
See my problem? =/
Vibro-Cannons? It's not the way of Eldar! It's now neither fluffy nor strong, since Glancings cannot destroy vehicle and they get this damned saves.
Not to mention Falcons are most reliable now. And only to survive really long. I would suggest either 3 Falcons or Reapers + 2 Falcons. Then stick farseer to Avengers and get Dragunov into Falcons...
Ow. Sorry. not enough points. Well... exchange one squad of DA to another Pathfinders? Then you'll have all you want.
