i prefer shooty tyranid,so i using godzilla list, are they still good at 5th edition?any suggestion for me?or i just change my army list for 5th edition?
"A love for tradition has never weakened a nation, indeed it has strengthened nations in their hour of peril."
Sir Winston Churchil
Though shooty nids did lose something because of running, they also picked up some toughness because the loss of 1 attack by all powerfisting soldiers. It is a tough trade off, but with vehicles losing some of thier firepower it might be worth it. All in all though I am pretty sure they will still be competetive.
Ranged MC lists also got a slight boost since the BS toting elite fexes got a significant improvement. You can field a fex with nothing but scything talons and a barbed strangler as an elite, and he'll be quite more effective at shooting than he used to be thanks to the new blast weapon rules.
So which should we choose? The Dakka fex thats better against MEQ or the anti-swarm/anti-tank might of the BS fex?

wew, elites fex with bs and st will be cool...
At this point I have already stripped the VC off of my Heavy fexes and now have: BS, Devs, enhanced senses.
What are people thinking for their new fex configurations. Before we had:
~Sniperfex: VC, Barbed, +BS, +W(maybe)
VC x2, +BS, +W
Barbed x2, +BS, +W
Good at stunning tanks, destroying one occasionally, Instant killing tough critters that failed their armor save.
~Godfex: At least the model looks sweet
~Dakkafex: Devs x2, +BS
Great cheap fex, stunning/killing lighter vehicles, killing light and heavy infantry
~ScreamerKiller: Scythe Talons x2, Tusked, +WS
Watching it survive until the end of the game but do nothing.
Now we are looking at:
~TL Barbed Fex: TL Barbed Strangler, +BS...a relatively cheap fex, but is it worth its salt. Give or take the enhanced senses.
~Hybrid Fex: Barbed, Devs, +Bs...A very cheap heavy option and my new heavy fex, I am not sure if the enhanced senses are needed but I will stick with them at first. I am thinking about two of these to at least effect my opponents deployment and movement patterns...thoughts?
~Template Fex: Barbed, TL Spitters...nothing great but I thought I would throw it out there. Could be VERY effective
against hordes and is cheap to boot.
~Sniperfex: Without a mention in the supposed FAQ the VC will be much less effective but may still have a place on the battlefield. For some reason the pairing of VC and barbed feels wrong to me now. Either way this is still the pairing with the combination of highest power, longest range shots.
~Dakkafex: nothing has been taken away from the effectiveness of this fex...it could even be nastier with the new wound allocation rules. A first turn run can put this puppy in range of whatever target it desires.
~ScreamerKiller: I agree that there is simply no way to make a CC fex effective. Even with the run rule I see no hope for these guys. Still torn to shreds by other CC units, still *should not* reach combat until at least turn 3. And now its massive 10/20 wound standing in combat resolution means nothing. Dusting these models off could be fun at first but nothing has truly changed.
~"Swarmfex": Barbed, Talons...The new kid in town? Perhaps. I will admit that the idea of five carnifexes fitted with stranglers is fun, I would even throw in two tyrants for the hell of it. I gleefully imagine giant segmented worms erupting from the ground and ripping orks to shreds. Sadly, I do not see this fex as much of an option. Blast weapons are simply to inaccurate to rely on to produce casualties with each shot, and need I remind you the giving a fex a scything talon is like giving a turd a pointy stick. The barbed strangler is still a valuable tool, just not on an elitefex.
These are simply the ideas that I have had. If anyone has other ideas for Carnifex conversions please let us know. Any comments on my 'tactical analysis' are welcome as well. All this writing is making me sleepy.
Excellent post sniperfex215. I agree with most of what you stated.
One small point though. I think the BS will be a good weapon for elitefexes From what I understand, MC's have the "relentless" rule in 5th edition, which means they count as stationary when firing their weapons.
This means the BS will only scatter D6-2 or 3 depending if you got the ballistic skill upgrade or not.
i hope that right,so sniperfex will be perfect for 5th edition
