Welcome to Librarium Online!
Well folks, my opponent has just left and I have to say that it was the least enjoyable 40k experience I've ever had. The Necron rules make them just too powerful ..and I really don't think that they can be beaten with Eldar ...I just can't think of the solution. At the risk of sounding trite - I really do feel like putting my whole army on Ebay.
1 Lord with Gaze of flame and Veil of Darkness
1 C'tan (Nightbringer)
2 Heavy Destroyers
2 units of 12 Necrons
2 Tomb spiders
1 Swarm of Bugs (52 Models - estimate phase out at losing 38 models ...Yes 38!!!!!!!)
1 Farseer with Eldrich & Guide
6 Striking Scorpions with Wave Serpent
5 Warp Spiders
3 War Walkers
5 Dark Reapers
Maugan Ra (51 Models ...I think)
There were a few (minor) mitigating circumstances - for example we started using the concealment rules - which meant I couldn't deploy as I would have liked - and I couldn't see any of his units with my dark reapers, We also had to escalate ...meaning my best stuff arrived in dribs and drabs - but beyond that - it was horrible.
The game started with my opponent deepstriking (Veil of Darkness ..I think it was) 1 squad of Necrons right infront of my Reapers and killing them all with rapid fire gauss.
In my turn, my Harlies and Avatar appeared and charged the unit of necrons ...however the kisses failed to wound ...good old S3 v's T4 ..so he was left with 2 blokes and his lord.
He then deep struck with the monolith and the Lord again ...after regenerating several of his troops. His lord turned up and rapid fired my Warwalkers ...stunning most of them. The monolith then gaussed my harlies ..killing the lot of them.
After that - his monolith just backed me into a corner and "Heavy-D6-per-unit"-ed the shit out of me. I could have cried.
All in all it felt like I had no reply to anything he had.
Most eldar weapons are substandard when it comes to marines ...but they seemed a waste of time when it came to the Necrons.
Hand to hand was a waste of time - as with the eldar's rubbish strength of 3 ...you only wound on a 5. The best H2H troop in the army wounds on a 5! Then they get a save ...then they get an WBB roll.
It's so frustrating - they have supreme mobilty due to the monolith and the Veil of Darkness, they have better weapons than your average eldar (Instakill gauss!!!!!), they have better armour, they have better toughness, they can regenerate, they are all fearless. All in all, do they have a disadvantage ...besides a lousy initiative?
All in all, I'm up for just packing in 40k after tonights BS - I don't see how the hell you are supposed to beat the buggers - Everyone suggests star cannons ...but you can only have a limited number of them. I had 8 tonight (not all fired at once) and I got humped. Bad luck can only count for so much. The monolith for example killed over half of my troops ...it's got armour of 14 for christ's sakes and it prevents any weapon from augmenting its strength ...what are you supposed to do with that? Would haywire grenades work?
I'm off to go an kick the cat/dog/fish ...then ebay the bloody lot of this eldar stuff.
Sorry to hear that, I hate loosing.
Haywire grenades, prism cannons, D-cannons. Are the three effective weapons against a Mono.
You have 3 HQ units which is illegal.
One swarm of bugs? um...it requires THREE bases to field those. You guys should check the rules a little more thoroughly as far as force organization.
Remember that rending in 4th is a wound that ignores armor on 6 to HIT.
Try doing a more standard mission so you can deploy normally.
Gauss does NOT instakill it just auto-wounds regardless of toughness you STILL get saves. I'm thoroughly surprised one volley killed off an entire squad of anything unless it was immortals/ destroyers.
Scorpions wound on a 4 against warriors. 5 on most everything else.
You need to pay attention to what does and does not get WBB and forces PO. He only has 36 necron units and would phase out when 27 of them are dead. Lords, Warriors, Immortals, Destroyers, Heavy Destroyers, Wraiths and Flayed ones are the ONLY models that count towards phase out, or get WBB.
It sounds like your opponent took advantage of your lack of understanding of how necrons work. They have some very different abilities that ya kinda gotta keep track of. Also sometimes the person you play is less honest than they should be and doesn't hld themself to the rules proper.
This doesn't mean you should quit. If I weren't a Necron player I doubt I'd fare well against them my first time. It's a very tough army. Some armies are just inherently strong against others. I've seen several Eldar players have problems with Necrons. Necrons seem to have just as much trouble with Daemonhunters. (I've never been able to beat them)
Yes, losing sucks, but it's important to understand why. Looking at your list, I can think of at least a few changes that could be made.
To quit an army after one loss is more than premature, although I know where you're coming from, and I do hope you keep at it.
Yeah seriously, complete lies.
he cheated in so many ways, Ive got a game coming up with the necrons and ive been studying thier codex. He screwed you hard. Everyone already said most of the rules, but i feew i didnt see, WBB is negated by insta kill weapons and any weapon in CC that denies armor save, including your rending. And he has to be close to another model of the same type. All of his cheating aside, your list doesnt look like its really geared to fight necrons anyways. They are an army of shooty midrange Heavy infantry, adjust accordingly.
Overall its obvious your opponent was taking advantage of your lack of his rules knowledge which sucks. Give your army a chance though, and better luck next time.

<Yes, losing sucks, but it's important to understand why. Looking at your list, I can think of at least a few changes that could be made.>
Don't leave it there! what changes?
Well the main problem here is that the rules were getting absolutely bent and broken, his list was pretty... well bad to say the least but the rules were broken so far it made it not matter.
Good luck and trust me man I've felt like it at times but its stupid to quit a hobby cause of something like this.
Page up a tad he critiqued your list and gave you advice.
Personally the strongest thing I can think of against crons.
Fireprisms- that cannon is just devastating to everything in our list.
Dark Reapers- Make them rely on WBB
Starcannons- Again take out ASaves and steamroll tougness.
Banshees- Power weapons.
Mass fire just doesn't work on necrons, they're too survivable. Second "save" and whatnot.
Also, try a more standard mission. Eldar are VERY picky about getting their units into the right thing. Out maneuvering your enemy is a MUST, as is out thinking them. Eldar shouldn't just bludgeon their way through the enemy, they take a little finesse.
